    As opposed to what?
Happy with my Dell Inspiron mini 1018.
But beware their customer service if it goes wrong.

NB. Most netbooks come with windows 7 starter and 1Gb of memory, increasing the memory to 2 Gb makes them run a lot smoother.

They are a lot more reliable than using inner psi powers to access the web.

Indeed OP would need to be at least a P5.

For testing they could apply to a.bester@earthforce.gov

  • A netbook would require some form of Internet connection to reach a website.

Do you propose to go down the pub with it and use free WiFi or also get a wired or wireless internet connection.

What do you want to (or need to) do ?

I bought a secondhand Asus EEE 901 netbook about a year ago and it is fantastic. I also have desktop PCs and a laptop. 90% of the time I use the desktop, the laptop is great to take around the house but far too unwieldy to take out - that's where the netbook comes in.

Initially it was running a hacked version of Xandros which was really buggy, so I tried Windows XP, which was great until I installed anti-malware apps which ran really slowly (about 30mins to update each day!). Eventually I moved to Arch Linux and it's so much quicker - even compared to XP before the anti-malware apps were installed.

The newer netbooks have dual-core processors, so they'll be even faster.

With a netbook you're sacrificing size and performance for portability, though, so I'd only recommend a netbook to someone for whom portability was the number one priority.
  • thanks for replies lads.
    i have a desktop and a laptop.
what i need is a way of getting online when I'm out and about with out having to lug around the laptop. I will only need to access one website from it (my works website ) to update a few figures.
i was thinking of getting a dongle and a netbook?

there are a few 3g netbooks which would take a sim card, not sure of the reception would be better or worse compared to a dongle, but it's one less thing to lose!

This is more or less what I needed from my netbook and despite my initial reservations, it has become a very valuable tool.

True that netbooks have certain limitations but in the context of highly mobile web access with a half-decent keyboard and very good battery life, they are just fine.

    Get it! :D

I luv my netbook as it's easy to surf around the place as it's light to carry/balance/plonk on your person or close to you. It copes fairly well with a few windows open.

Occasionally it slows down if you are virus or malware scanning / windows updating etc. and open a couple of windows @ the same time.

I find i'm on my netbook more, even though sometimes my lappy is parked up beside it.

I paid £205 (plus upgraded the ram to 2gb for around £20)
