To further complictate matters, Sky are changing from using PPPoA, to MER (MAC Encapsulated Routing) for customers who are on their Sky Voice and Broadband Network.
This uses the routers' MAC (Media Access Code) address to connect rather than a username and password.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

And this whole situation is why I won't switch to sky's LLU bb service :(

Most of the sky routers have been cracked to extract user/pword, including the older DG934, sagem, and D-Link 2640S, the latter requiring an extraction program. Right PITA, no proper line monitoring/tweaking (I tweak snrm down to 2.5dB daytime to get the best out of my line, their techies didn't even think that was physically possible, bless their little non-techie socks :D ). And now this move away from PPPoE/PPPoA will mean people ALSO having to spoof the MAC address of the supplied router in order to use a decent one - BAH

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

totally understand that but then again from my point of view paying £7.50 a month for a 10mb connection which is unlimited with no fair use policy is very hard to argue with especially when i have sometimes breached 700gb a month

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    700GB ?!?!?!?!?!??! bl00dy hell g, what you downoading, or shouldn't I ask?!?!?!?!? ;)

my point is, even bundled with sky tv, if I went LLU with them, is it wouldn't cost me any less than my unlimited talktalk package. No advantage on line speed either (my tweak to 2.5dB gives me 7 meg sync on a 50dB line, so pushed to it's limits already irrespective of ISP). AND I can use any router I want as tiscali (as was, and TT then and now,for that matter) give you your user/pword no probs - even if you lost your original sign-up letter with them on, and you can change the pword on the website :)

...and sky don't seem keen to take over an already-LLu'd line, last time I asked they wanted to install a whole new line at a cost of £££££ :(

If all else fails try using a Solwise Homeplug which routes the signal through your mains supply between rooms. You just plug the supplied ethernet cables from the router into the plug and similar at the other end (although you may need to buy a longer cable to stretch to his pc/x box/ ps3 or what ever he is using)

My girlfriend has a 3 storey town house and uses one to get the signal between the floors without a problem (although very old house wiring may be an issue)

A twin pack of plugs is around £35
