Curve 8520 Mobile Phone from O2

Need a little bit of advice, I have no idea about phones but my daughter is 11 years old in a few weeks and has asked for a Blackberry, I know this is an expensive phone for a child but my daughter entered a few swim galas over the summer and as a reward I told her she could have a Blackberry for her birthday. I'm buying a Curve 8520 (O2) pay as you go and managed to order one from Very.com (only because they sent me a 10% discount offer and I had a £50 credit) total cost with delivery £98 (was £159)

Is this a good phone for a 11 year old? What is the best sim to get? or best tariff to go on?

Any advice?
Thanks

Similar question today: Sim only deal that includes Blackberry Internet Service.

It's a different story if your daughter doesn't want to use BB-specific services.
  • It's certainly a very popular phone with teenagers - my dd has one (aged 12) - we get 200 mins, 500 texts 250 mg data and BIS for £12.40 pcm (vodafone over 24 months). Only took out a contract cos it was cheaper than any sim deals I could find - she was going to buy payg
  • My 12yo also has one. 250/5000/500MB for 15/month with Tesco. Slot a funky protective case on the back for a 5er and it's good to go. She never even scratches the data allowance, guess her and pals only really BBM and txt each other all the time.
