What exactly will they prosecute for? :huh:0 -
Not necessarily. They are under no obligation to accept a CC statement in this case
Oh yeah, that's only for faulty stuff. However, if the issue is they're happy to swap the item but the OP can't prove she bought it (not nicked it!) because she's lost the receipt, she might be able to get more joy if she can prove her purchase."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I can't recall - I'll have a nosey and let you know.
Edit: Apologies, it was TKMaxx! I'm guessing it would be obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception?

Unfortunately, yes. They can impose whatever terms they like in it, so can insist on an original receipt.0 -

I'm near certain I paid on credit card but it doesn't appear on my recent transactions (maybe they didn't charge!), maybe it will if I check again later. However, how is this proof of purchase? It proves I purchased SOMETHING from Primark, not necessarily the thing I am trying to return (and the price wouldn't match either because I bought more than one thing).0 -
I bought an item from Primark (shame on me) in size Medium. I realised when I got it home that I should have bought it in size Small (because I already have the same item in Small, which is the correct size, and I wanted a spare). However, because of Sod's Law, between getting from the shop to home I somehow lost the receipt. I tried going back to ask for an exchange but they said they can't do that without the receipt.
If I make a new purchase, this time getting the item in Small, then later go back using THIS receipt to return the item bought in Medium, would they be able to detect it's not the same transaction? Will the receipt barcode distinguish the size?
The receipt will show a small sized item and the item you want to return will be a medium. You will be better off going to the store and explaining what has happened and see if they will exchange it. You never know, they might be happy with just swapping it over. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

they can check the time and date you bought it and go through their records to check the purchase

If your returning an item because it's faulty (or in accordance with your statutory rights) then a retailed cannot insist on a receipt -- any proof of purchase is fine.
Since you don't have a statutory right to return a product, your returning/exchanging because of their own return policy and they can therefore impose any terms they like, suchas exchange/refunds available when presented with a valid receipt only.
But worth a shot.0 -
Primark will exchange it without a receipt, no problems.0
