Will a new receipt work?

I bought an item from Primark (shame on me) in size Medium. I realised when I got it home that I should have bought it in size Small (because I already have the same item in Small, which is the correct size, and I wanted a spare). However, because of Sod's Law, between getting from the shop to home I somehow lost the receipt. I tried going back to ask for an exchange but they said they can't do that without the receipt.
If I make a new purchase, this time getting the item in Small, then later go back using THIS receipt to return the item bought in Medium, would they be able to detect it's not the same transaction? Will the receipt barcode distinguish the size?

I very much doubt the receipt will include the size, so that should be fine.
Will Primark do a refund if you change your mind? If they only exchange you might fend up with three of the same item.0 -

Did you pay cash, libertino? If you used a card, a bank or credit card statement will suffice as proof of purchase."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

But we can't guarantee it. Computerised stocking systems these days are getting more sophisticated and many receipts contain full product details (including size as this is fairly critical to your stock control system).
I'd hate to advise the OP 'yes this will be fine' and then for them to be rumbled. No doubt you could talk your way out of it by looking a bit confused and saying 'well that was the receipt I was given' but, quite frankly, trying to exchange something knowing you've not been 100% honest is pretty stressful (not to mention immoral - although in this instance no one's going to be financially worse off I assume)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
all depends if the different sizes carry their own unique product barcode (which they might) you would need to check the tags.
In any case, still not really that legal I suspect...0 -
Primark bar coded labels tend to be size specific so when they scan the label in on return it will not match the receipt. My son's gf had a part time uni job is Primark and reckons she gets several people a day trying this on her.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My wife has taken stuff back to Primark when they didn't fit or wasn't wanted (usually stuff for my 4 year old daughter who can be very beligerant when it comes to what she will wear) and so long as the original tags have been on the garments, never had a problem getting either a refund, or an exchange. You could try your luck going to a different Primark, or even a different store assistant to see if they will be more sympathetic.HTWSSTKS0

Given that Primark prosecute individuals that abuse their returns policy, I would be very careful being dishonest. There are several cases of this reported on the Consumer Action Group forum.0

Not necessarily. They are under no obligation to accept a CC statement in this case
Op, go back in and look at the barcodes, see if they're the same.0
