Hi again we have tried both jack to phone and jack to scart. And and still black and white.
It is set to PAL option.
Cant you tell hubby back fromf ooty to help me answer your questions!!LOL

have you tried plugging camera into a different telly or even a video? either the camera output is svhs and your telly is looking for composite or you could have a faulty lead?
It certainly sounds like a simple problem I suggest you start reading the instruction manual and double checking settings / connection options etc..

To get the best quality, you need to use firewire/i-link, but you'll need a DVD recorder or PC with firewire card capable of plugging it in.

We have tried a s video lead, the only other thing i can tell you is when we tried playing the tapes through another video camera it was in colour but went all `blocky` moving blocks of fuzzyness all over making it unwatchable.

that can be normal because the heads cannot be set to a precise refernce standard so there is deviation between differing machines - don't worry about that!

Hiya iv done all this, read and re read the maunal, tried it on 4 different tvs, bought a new lead, and still black and white.AHHHHHHHHHH.
I know we keep saying it must be something really simple, but obviously so simple we cant work it out.
We took it to local camera shop who in the end sold us the new lead, and they said it could be because we recorded it in lp.? Could this be right? I hope not because that would mean i could never get it in colour and one off footage will be in black and white forever.

Thank you all for replying so quickly, i am starting to have hope that you lot will find a answer for me.THANK YOU

  • LP shouldn't make a difference, and because it's coming through in colour on the LCD, the data is definitely there, so it's got to be a connection or settings issue. First things first, we'll need to find out whether it's a connection issue, or whether it's just that recording that's the issue. If you switch your camera to record mode while it's plugged into the TV with whatever method you've been using, and just wave it around the living room a bit, is it in colour or B&W?

clearly unhelpful because the op says the tape plays back colour in the viewfinder - this is a camera setup / connection problem.

@OP can you tell us what the output of your camera is i.e. composite, Svideo? go through every setup menu you can find (in play mode) and check output settings tv out video etc etc. If you can get the output set to definately composite and the output still B&W then there is an internal fault with the camera IMO.

What lead are you using, what is the connector on both ends? Have you tried firewire, if you have a recorder with a firewire input?

Don't use s-video, that can cause the b&W problem.
