A small USB extension lead and jack plug extension lead should come to less than a tenner and adapt that cable to fit if the problem is purely that the spacing is different?
  • No, well I have had a dig around, and alledgedly, some of teh USB cables are customised - a standard USB cable gets an error code - its OK, DW is happy with just a 3.5 jack, is not that interested in controlling teh ipod from teh cd controls (no steering wheel ones fitted)

If you use a USB extension cable it doesn't matter if the cable is customised as those customisations will still be present and the extension cable will not make any further alterations to the wiring.

Also worth noting that the police tend to take a dim view of people fiddling with iPods while driving, and will probably "mistake" it for a mobile phone, which is a fine and points.
  • agreed, but the idea is to keep everything tidy, not that interested in creating cable city in her nice new car :)

Fair enough.. You'd hate my Mondeo in that case, even though most of them are stuffed in the ashtray.

If you really want a tidy iPod install, get one of those Sony "tune tray" radios that replace the CD player with a little slide out tray with a USB connector inside. I have one in the Cefiro and it's lovely, not a single cable anywhere. Lot of money though so not really MSE. I mainly got it as the car came with a tape player :)
  • She has only had it 10 days, if I start swapping out the head unit already, i am liable to end up divorced!

Like the idea of that HU, might look at swapping the one out of my 11yr old Megane Convertible :)
