Kia/Hyundai Ipod connector cable

Here's one for the Audio experts :)

Wife just got a 2008 Kia Sportage, and it has a usb&jack connector in the front of the Stereo.

Tried connecting the Ipod with teh standard USB cable and got an error, did some digging and found you need a specific cable - OK, not paying £35 for a £2 cable at the dealers, so went Ebay route and sourced a genuine Hyundai/Kia Cable.... However, the spacing between the USB and the Jack point is wrong and it wont fit!

I cant find a cable specific for the 2008 version, the closest I can find is an Ipod cable for BMW, where the cable splits at the end.

My question is.... Will the BMW one fit and work in the Kia Stereo?? I would think it does, but I am sure someone can confirm before I go buying more cables!

Thanks

Oddly enough, I bought one of these last week...

    Kia iPod cable

It came in a Kia labelled bag. I've not tried it in a car though.

Edit: It seems the Kia/Hyundai cables on eBay are only suitable for post 2009 cars.
  • You should have had a cable suitable for the job supplied with the car. If you got it from a Kia dealer complain that it wasnt supplied. Mine was in the glove box in its plastic bag where it still is now. If you have the Kia supplied cable it will work.
  • Apparantly, they only started supplying the cable, with the car in 2009.... Might try and butter up the local Kia garage :)
  • Well, mines older (57/08) and it has one supplied.
  • Want to sell it? :)
In all honesty, the Kia dealers are pants, and only have a part number for teh current one - is there a part number on yours I can quote?

    Thanks
  • The number below the barcode is: 96125-1H500
  • Curious now, is teh USB & 3.5mm jack in one piece of plastic, or are they seperate?
Is yours to fit with plug in teh dash or in teh very front of teh radio?
    Thanks

  • Yep Gloomanddoom, that is teh one I have and is too wide for the fitting on the stereo facia - it fits teh ones with remote ports.

Spent a good hour last night at the Hyundai dealers who I know really well - as they are both teh same company anyway and share loads of parts.
Short version is, they used to to one where the 2 plugs were seperate, which has been replaced by teh new one (as in your pic).

You can not get an old one for love nor money, and the only option is 2 seperate 'standard' cables. Pain in the backside, but better than nothing. I shall continue to watch Ebay :)

This from Play should work even though the 3.5mm socket only has the normal stereo connection rather than the stereo plus microphone that "official" cables have - I searched for "ipod usb 3.5mm cable".

You could try Googling the model number of the radio itself as that may bring up the cable itself
