As the title really.

Currently using handbrake but it takes forever so looking for something quicker, if there is anything quicker for Mac?

Also, are there any programmes that can boost the volume of ripped movies as sometimes the volume just isn't loud enough when in noisy places. :(

    Thanks. :)

I was looking for something free though. :)

It seems to be free for Windows users but $50 for Mac users. :(

I use Handbrake on my Macbook pro, used to use it on my white macbook, but using it on a faster system means it runs much quicker? so how old/what spec is your mac?
secondly do you specify from the quick option toolbar the ipad 2 spec? I use it for watching stuff on my iphone4, and the iphone4 setting takes twice as long as the iphone 3G/ipod touch setting. Yes the quality isnt as high but i cant tell that on my iphone 4, and I sometimes watch the same files on my 32" TV through my Apple TV. Although the picture quality is not crystal clear like HD would be, it's no worse than watching standard definition TV, so why not test using the ipod touch/iphone 3G setting, see how the speed varies, and see if the quality is all that bad on your ipad?

There is nothing quicker and it will be the same no matter what you use. The speed is dictated by two things:

    1) The quality settings
    2) The speed of your computer.

So you have two choices. Either lower the quality or buy a faster Mac.

  • Handbrake. I see you already use it, but it is the best. There are Handbrake forums if you want to ask questions about settings, there are a lot of options!
  • Hey, looks like I'll be sticking with Handbrake then.

I didn't know there was an iPad setting within Handbrake?

My MacBook Pro is Mid 2009 with a 2.53GHz processor and 4GB of RAM, would increasing this to 8 help?

Probably yes but if I were you I would ask that question on the Handbrake forums. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro, with a 2Ghz Intel i7 with 4GB RAM and it takes about 30mins to do a DVD film. I also have an SSD hard drive and send the ripped movie to my NAS drive over my network, whilst encoding so that will slow things down a little.

That has to be the geekiest post I have written in ages ;)
