Look Guys . I am in no way defending what the OP wants to do , but honestly if you can't give a productive answer why bother ?? ??
    .

I guess it boils down to if myself and others in this thread really dont want to pay for gas bills, Can we avoid it ?

No we can't and why should we be any different, harsh but arent we all equal ? ;)

  • You maybe get more sympathy if you didnt try to get off paying. This site is about saving money not trying to get off scot free and devoid of any responsibility when it suits you

I'm surprised how immature the responses are in this website.

How could I find out, what information does the gas company have about me, if anything? I changed the information under my name 1 year ago, when one of my flatmate moved out, and I cannot remember whatkind of information they required, but I don't suppose it included any of my bank details since I haven't been paying it via direct debit.

You could do a subject access request. Ask them to provide all information they hold about you. Even if they don't have any info about you, when they write back you will know they hold your address. :D

You get some newbies on here who don't contribute and just want to justify some immoral or illegal action and get really surprised when people disagree. It is a site for saving money not getting out of paying your bills.

With the details you have already supplied the gas company could mark your credit file, which could cost you more in the long term if you ever want credit or a mortgage. Citizens advice bureau should be able to give you advice on your situation.

I do understand that you're upset at the situation your housemates left you in but that is not the gas company's responsibility so legally they will consider you liable for the bill as your name is on it. It's best to deal with this now rather than running away from it.

Someone has to take the responsibility of the bills

This is the whole point, you accepted responsibility ,foolishly , so honour it and pay up !!!

It will go against your credit file and you will be screwed for a least six years. You can run away and change address but there will be a 'question mark' about your name for a long time.

Do the right thing otherwise you will come to regret it.

You dont say why your were evicted and did not get your deposit back, this may be relevant because you may be able to get this money back and use it towards the gas bill.

There are plenty of people who are "running" away from all sorts of debt, and boasting how clever they are. Their standard greeting is

    "How's it going?",
    "Dodging, Diving and Skipping, man".

There was a guy who claimed he was moving every six months to stay ahead of the Child Support Agency. Took contract work in computing, about £60 an hour apparently.

To people like that, you are the victim whom they suckered into signing the contract. Good luck in asking advice from one of them.

"Jump in. Hide in my boot, I'll take you to a safe house."

"Hi Yusuf. Fancy some fresh meat? A thousand, eight hundred, done."

"Come out of the trunk, honey. This nice man willl take you to Abu Dhabi, where the debt collectors will never find you."

What you are doing here, though, is to ask a priest how to steal his lead lining.

OP just remember you WILL NEED gas and electric again in your lifetime!!!
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
  • first off:

you are responsible; it was your name on the bill.

have you , i dont know , actually spoken to the supplier? they are jumping through the legal hoops because they have had no contact - sadly the othe pople in the house they wont be interested in as

it was your nam on the bill.

so getting *something* from them for the bills would be down to you.

    deposit:

legally a landlord / landlady have to keep your depsoit in a seprate, government controlled bank account - for retuning at the end of a lease; if they havent done that then get your !!! to some proper legal advice over recovery of your deposit from who ever is holidng the estate.

edit: thats the moral view of dealing with debt in your name; ofc there will be others who will happily tell you how to avod these companies for the 6 years till they cant sue for it.
  • what ever you take, will be taken from you one day

Can't wait for it to catch up with MP's and their expenses then!.
