Please correct me if I am wrong but I assume that with GiffGaff you buy a "goody bag" & it only lasts a month even if you haven't used all your minutes /texts ?

Yes. Although if you get unlimited you couldn't use them all up

Yes, it's like a 1 month contract deal but the big advantage is that at the end of the month you can choose whether to renew it for a further month or just revert to PAYG if you don't think your usage will be high for a while.

You can opt for a goodybag at any time so, if you are going abroad for a week or so you can time it to be on PAYG while away (because your goodybag won't be of use) but setup a goodybag purchase in advance to kick in the day you get back to the UK.

Just for info, their PAYG and text rates are to increase to 10p/min and 6p per text fairly soon. Goodybags are unchanged.

I have had Giffgaff for some months and am pleased with it. I normally have the £10 goody bag but when I went to the Irish Republic I reverted to pay as you go(cheap if you do not use mobile data), and it worked well for the odd text or phone call. So you can have a pay as you go balance and a goody bag credit on the same sim card. If you do not renew the goodybag your phone reverts to pay as you go mode
