carol_a wrote:Have you got room for me in your suitcase?? Regarding the above post about Brittany being like Cornwall etc. I agree they are both beautiful (I am a bit biased as I live in Cornwall and have also visited Brittany several times) but even in July/August you cannot guarantee good weather. You are more likely to see sunshine the further down France you go.
Thanks Carol,
Cornwall is lovely but just fancied a change. I daresay brittany is nice but I do love the look of the dordogne. There seems to be a lot more to do than just being a beach holiday. We quite like the cottage and pool option as we do in cornwall and the cornwall prices just seem to be getting much more expensive we wondered if we could strecth our budget to france xxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
Sounds lovely. Do you need a car to enjoy a holiday there, or can you get out into the country by public transport? I am not a driver but would enjoy a place like this.0

I have no idea re public transport as we would hire a car. The pictures I've seen of this area are lovely so hope it is a place with good rail links etc for you Voyager20000

Stayed in Bergerac for a week last summer. My Brother got married in Biron which was about a 40 minute drive away and my partner and I stayed for a holiday afterwards.
We flew with RyanAir from Liverpool to Bergerac and my brother hired a car, which he collected at the airport. We had a great holiday, weather was really hot for June which was great. Stayed in the Hotel Europe in Bergerac, hotel was air conditioned and had a pretty decent pool and I think there was a nearby waterpark for the kids.
You won't regret your visit at all. If you want any further advice, feel free to drop me a PM.0 -
we are thinking of doing the reverse this year.....we love france but fancy staying in a cottage in cornwall instead. We have been to brittany before and used the company french Life....we used our tesco vouchers with them.we went the last week in august which is when i think a lot of the french take their holidays.lots of places were closed but we loved it.....we had the beach to ourselves for most of the time and just loved the quiet tranquillness of the place.
incidentally....any ideas for that cottage in cornwall???0 -

We have stayed at tredethick farm cottages which was first class but expensive. Had great kids play areas and pool but gets booked up about 18months in advance. Also with cornwall we have had problems with parking at the beaches and towns over the summer hols as it is very busy and almost unbearable. It is so much better off peak.0 -

You want to try living here!! Parking is expensive and a nightmare at the best of times and Truro on a wet day is unbearably busy in the school holidays.0 -

I can imagine how much you must resent holidaymakers in the summer months - sorry for being one of them;)0
