Hi all, just rang up Scottish Power as my capped price deal came to an end at the end of December. Last bill said i was on the "Premier Plus Capped Price" package.
Rang up to see what deal they could offer me, the woman tried to sign me up to a 2010 capped rate, but this was double what I was paying on my last capped price deal.
Current standard rate for Manchester is:
Gas Standing Charge 12.04
Gas Unit Charge 2.49
Elec Standing Charge 12.39
Elec Unit Charge 7.191
So currently my standing charge for both gas and elec is less than I was paying on the capped deal, but the unit charges are both double what I was paying.
Asked about the online energy saver 2, the woman said it's only for new customers and refused to put me onto it. Even asked how to cancel contract with themselves and she didn't budge
Any tips, or better deals out there for me?

have you tried putting your details in on uswitch or one of the comparison websites? gives you an idea of what's out there anyway.
I believe some suppliers are planning to reduce their prices come easter time.
If you were only paying 4p per unit for your electricity you were doing really well, i'm amazed! Are you sure you were really only paying that?Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

No not tried that to be honest mate, will give it a go and see what comes out. Thanks
Yeah prices I was paying on 2 year capped was:
Gas Standing Charge 13.600
Gas Unit Charge 1.263
Elec Standing Charge 13.960
Elec Unit Charge 4.770
So that change currently makes a bigish difference.0 -
Just done a check, best deal for me is to stay with Scottish Power but to go on the Online Energy Saver 2 Dual Fuel deal. However, when I tried to change to that they said no as it's new customers only.
ANyone know if I can just keep ringing back till someone lets me sign up to it? Or will they all say no?
Currently not an online customer either as I just pay direct debit each month and receive paper bills etc...0 -
Hi Steven,
Check this thread:

Fellow MSE'rs have successfully got onto the Saver 2 deal, even being existing Scottish Power customers. You need persistance, with politeness?
However, as you will see further down the post, I have opted to go for EDF Energy, as they were cheapest in my area.
I used EnergyHelpline, and also MoneySuperMarket, with the latter giving me £30 cashback!!
hope that helps!

If you are a low to moderate user you may find Equipower and Equigas competative. Gas is 2.55p per kwh, Electric (Northern) 9.78p per kwh.
No standing charges, pay the same by meter, cheque or Direct Debit.
Some comparison sites don't show them as they don't do kick backs. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
