Replacing car stereo

I wouldn't say that! I've installed a fair few stereos in my time, lost count by a long way, but I've never done a 206. All input is useful that's why we're here.
500 is actually a pretty good budget to be honest.
Installing replacement speakers shouldn't be too difficult if you're half handy, and you'd realise a lot more gain in terms of sound quality from your new stereo if you did.
I don't know what size speakers are in the 206 without doing my research but I'd strongly recommend Focal speakers and you should get 4 (2 front and 2 rear) for around £200. Then give yourself £200 for a decent stereo that does what you want.
Don't be tempted to spend too much on the stereo and then skimp on the speakers, I promise you it's worth paying the extra on them.
Are you after putting a sub woofer and all that jazz in? If so then your budget will be different...0 -

thanks, yes i think ive read about not skimping on the speakers so ill bear that in mind,
again ive no idea, what on earth does a sub do, i guess an amp just amplifies it.
Not sure when ill be selling the car so im unsure whether to replace the speakers yet0 -
Yes a subwoofer gives more bass, i see you've already said that isn't a priority for you, which is fine. An amp is used as you say, to amplify the speakers, but again its not critical to have one, 4 speakers powered from a decent headunit will still provide more a much more high quality sound then you currently have.
If you're not keeping the car too long then to be honest i'd question any of it? Although the stereo is easy to swap back (make sure you have the code for the original headunit if the 206 has one) should you decide to sell. Indeed speakers can be swapped back too, but it's much more of a pain to do.
Good luck with it, and feel free to PM if you need anything else.0 -

I was having a read up last night about this actually. It seems the HTC ins't very compatible when it comes to streaming music over bluetooth to most stereo headunits, much like the blackberries aren't great (or never used to be when I had mine).
I think the best way for you to get your music playing through your stereo would be to get one with a USB connection that you can connect the HTC to, or perhaps even just an Aux-in jack.
You can still get a stereo that has bluetooth and then use it for handsfree.
Is there anything specific you're after on a stereo? Apart from playing mp3s form your HTC.0 -

apologies for dragging up an old thread but i really want to get this done since i now have confirmation i will have a regular wage coming in.
Which brands of stereo are good quality ? i was thinking of spending say £50 but is this enough to get a good unit ?
Id ideally want 1 with usb and aux connections.0 -
I got this other day for a retrofit for my Honda civic, I just wanted dab and usb. I am having it fitted in new year. I got free fitting

Aldi have a stereo on offer http://uk.aldi.com/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_22455.htm
Its on offer now0 -
http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_22455.htm These usually get a good write up. £50 will probably not get you a named brand with the functions you want. What car is it for as you may need a fitting kit, if you do need one steer clear of Halfords unless you want your wallet pillaged.0

Would £100 get something of better quality ? its for a 206, been looking on the owners forums and apparently i need an adpater to be able to use the stalk so ill look into that. All id want to do is to be able to playing music thats on the phone.
Is this pioneer unit any good priced at £650 -
Def something ok with a £100 budget. You need to ensure that the unit is stalk control compatible, many are not. 206's can be a PITA getting the correct stalk adaptor, there are 3 different ones covering 1999 -2002.
edit. That Pioneer looks ok, nothing special but ticks the boxes for what you need.0
