Halifax Clarity Card...Cash Withdraw

Hi,

I have just changed my Halifax One to Halifax Clarity.

Can I go into my bank, withdraw 5k and deposit into my current account. Then do a balance transfer from my MBNA Card to Halfax. It saves me paying a 4% fee, whereas this way I only pay 2.9% balance transfer fee for 0% for 12 months.

Or do halifax do money transfers on this card? So I dont have to go into my bank.

Thanks in Advance.

I don't think you can, but if you have an ATM that's convenient you could take £500 for 10 days (you'd have to pay interest until the BT arrives but it's only a few days).

I can't find that facitlity, but you could call them.

I've had a clarity for 13 months and last weekend got offered a super balance transfer from my CC to my bank account. So yes, they do offer this. Probably give them a ring and see.

I thought you could withdraw cash from the credit card over the counter?

You can, via the chip and PIN terminal, and it's not limited to the customary £500 per day limit according to anecdotal evidence on the stoozing website. :)

Probably the same as mine. 7.9% for 18 months, with no fees.

im thinking of doing this, as i no longer have an Egg.

not seen any mention of this on the stoozing.com forums, so must not be very profitable. maybe i missed it!
however, i have a large cc limit on the clarity, and could use the Lloyds 1.5% BT fee to my advantage. would dump the proceedings into my current account, then into the mortgage(relatively high rate)

I would rather withdraw all the money in one go from inside the bank, rather than 15 lots of 500 quid. Also, ive finished with the M and S card, so travellers cheques is out the window. it was good while it lasted!

regarding above post, even if halifax offered me a SBT promo, the fee would still be more than the 1.5% offered by Lloyds. the only downside to the above method is the impact on credit rating.

    any more thoughts on this?

The M&S card has an ongoing 56 day interest free period on Sterling TCs.

Assuming you still have the card, and it has a decent limit*, you can still use them to create a debt which you can then BT to LTSB.

And it shouldn't show up as a cash advance at the CRAs?

    * Even if it doesn't have a large limit you could make multiple purchases, settling each in turn with a BT to LTSB (providing you get them all done within any timeframe dictated by LTSB).
