Comparethemarket - Meercat toy farce!

Hi

I've tried to claim the meercat toy for my kids but comparethemarket claim they can't validate me as a customer. Despite giving them the policy number they say they have no record of my quote or policy purchase. They don't even have a Customer Services telephone number so I can talk them through the complaint.

Has anyone had problems with the above validating that the policy purchased through an insurer was introduced via comparemarket? I have sent various e-mails trying to get them to investigate but I get the same responses telling me that the error must be on my side and I don't meet the critieria. I have given them all the information needed to look into this but they still can't be bothered to investigate.

Not sure where to take this now. FOS? Advertising Standards Authority?

Ay suggestions welcome......

If they cant find you as dealing via them then chances are the insurer wont either and they wont be paid the commission.

Are you sure you actually purchased via them and didn't break the link and go direct via the insurer own site? i.e. you may have got the quote and may have picked that provider but the actual purchase may not have used their link but the provider's own.

You could ask the insurer if comparethemarket is recorded as the agent or if someone else is.

You cannot complain to the FOS. You have to complain to the company. I am not sure it is something that you can refer to the FOS either as it is unlikely to be within their remit.

A lot of companies offering these freebies use outside companies to administer this for them. If you are not listed, you won't get the free toy.

If you are desperate for a meercat, suggest that you write to Comparethemarket and make a complaint. Perhaps they may send you the whole family collection as compensation.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

It may also depend on whom issued the quote first, e.g confused or comparethemarket, they normaly work on first tracked
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Having gone through this process for my father (!) I have a question. You have to claim via www.meerkovo.com not comparethemarket?

He got his meerkat after a few weeks.

    Tell them to stuff it.

Serious answer - write to the insurer and ask them what their records indicate as the "source code" for your policy. Insurers/brokers usually keep this stuff on record for marketing purposes, commission payment, insurer audit etc.
