I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps0 -
check out the other thread for B+B info etc.. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=348074
I think a good start is to take the open top bus tour, this is a good way to spot places you may be interested in visiting whilst there..0 -
www.bewleyshotels.com 99 euro room per night in Ballsbridge (a few stops out on the dart train )
you could also try www.comfortinnsmithfield.com
or www.juryshotel.com
All off these charge extra for breakfast .
Also google B&B gardiner street dublin
Gardiner street is central and full off B&B,s .
I have stayed in hazelbrook house in Gardiner street
and The Townhouse in Gardiner street .
If you book Gardiner street ask for a room at the back ,the trafic can be busy at night
what age are the family0 -

When dd and I went 2 years ago we stayed in Butlers Town House Ballsbridge Dublin 4 its a little way out of town but very peacfull and quite at night about 3 mins walk to the bus stop to take you to town. The breakfasts were the best, kept us going till mid afternoon. The Rooms were superb exceptionally clean and tidy with very comfortable beds. We found out about 3 hours before we left, that we could have used health club facilities across the road for free.I would advise anyone visiting Dublin to buy a buss pass, this can be used to get you from airport to hotel we bought ours on the ryanair flight on the way in.
Bus services are very regular and frequent in Ireland. The green/ red / yellow bus tour is brilliant i would advise getting your ticket about 1 .30 then it lasts 24 hours ,so if you do the guiness factory the first afternoon , you can catch up on shops the next morning. The things you see on the tour are brilliant,to walk around and see them I reckon would take you 2 days and a headache:hello:What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
I've stayed at the Aston twice and can't fault it

It may not be the height of luxury, but it's a lovely, clean, family-run place overlooking the river in the very centre of Dublin and is quiet despite being on the edge of Temple Bar. I've yet to find a place which is better value for money in Dublin (if you phone to book be sure to quote the stated internet rate as the rates offered over the telephone are sometimes higher)

take the trip up the river - only one on it and very interesting - lasts about 1 hr - and covered boat so gets you out of the rain.
You must have the right money to get on buses there but be warned the city is virtually gridlocked with traffic especially at rush hour. If any of you smoke do not have Majors - they are likely to end up in serious choking fit as very strong compared to cigarettes here, if you go for a guiness be patient as they pour the way it is meant to be there................slowly.
There is a charge for carrier bags there as well in food stores so be prepared for that as you are not automatically given one.
Try brac - a fruit loaf whilst there and white pudding sort of white black pudding, corned beef is different there is two - also pink lemonade is lovely. Pack a rain coat too,
