Since reading this forum and others on this site I've spent loads on the following:
Lock and lock containers
Vac sacs
Food Dehydrator
Stardrops
micro cloths
saucepans
kitchen bin
kitchen scales
kettle
toaster
coffee maker
frying pan
wok
[already had a hand blender, pressure cooker, breadmaker, slow cooker]
and am now looking at the Kenwood Chef......so much for money saving
However I hope it will be in the long run and the food we are now eating is much better for us. What have you bought since becoming OS?

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Vinegar, stardrops, extra bicarb, baking tins and a few cook books. That's all.
Don't have a slow cooker, a breadmaker or a kenwood! You can survive and OS without them!
Although I already had a wok, frying pan, food processor, scales and saucepans etc.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Only things I have paid out for are stardrops, white vinegar, bicarb & microfibre clothes but as this has already saved me loads on cleaning products I am ahead here!
I did already have S/C and Breadmaker - just both get more use now! and also saucepans, wok, liquidiser, kitchen scales etc were in regular use too.
Vivw - how did you cope without a kettle - I would have thought this was an everyday item that every home has??0 -
Just bought microfibre cloths as I have everything else I need already (except stardrops, but I won't buy them till I have used up all the chemicals under the sink... )
Not sure why I bought the microfibre cloths though - not quite sure what to do with themSave the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -
the kettle was a replacement but used one of the other forums to get the best deal...same with saucepans, bin, toaster, coffee maker
The saucepans were my treat...have had the same horrid ones for yrs but when i sold loads of books on amazon [idea from this site] i treated myself to a set of Judge stainless steel ones from Robert Dyas using a voucher for free postage and quidco
And they are worth every penny as they make cooking a pleasure! We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
We learnt the hard way that buying quality items really does pay off in the long run! Our last pan set was about middle of the road from Argos but they are getting to the stage where replacement in looming. they have been excellent and so easy to clean compared to the £20 off the market set I started out with when I first left home at 18!0

This is the set I bought:http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=311&storeId=91&productId=24051&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10419&parents_parent_category_rn=10409&top_category_rn=10351&showSubCategory=yes&top=Y&cache_entry=-1
and I am so happy with them. They came recommended by others on this siteWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
I had to buy quite a few things when it comes to cleaning, but have saved a fortune with all the chemicals I used to buy and I mainly got them from the sumernaturals site which takes paypal so used my 'free' eBay money to pay for them
I did have to buy scales, I had some manual ones which were useless so bought some electronic ones for £6 in the sales, but only because we basically lived on ready meals and pre prepared foods before almost, what I did make like cakes was in a prepared mix you just threw an egg into.
I have saved more than 10 times what I have spent so don't mind. I have ordered a Dehydrator hoping that will save me more, my kids have a lot of dried fruits etc and can dry what would have probably been thrown out.
I got a slow cooker for Christmas, which is brillI also got an electronic knife, which has come in very very handy. I bought a potato ricer off eBay with my 'free' money aswell which has saved me buying ready made mash
as it's now edible.
Food storage I bought those 10 for £1 ones in pound shop, couple of lockable ones as I smashed the ones I had over Christmas as using them more. Bins and things I already had, same with kettle, toaster etc.
I would like a breadmaker but haven't got round to saving up for one yet, was hoping some would be on offer in the sales but haven't seen any yetI am tempted with that pan set, but mine are sort of OK that I have, so have resisted.
One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Lil Me, if you have a cash converters or something like that around you it's well worth having a look in there for a breadmaker. My DH bought my MR twinloaf rapide from Cash converters (it was graded stock which means ex-catalogue not used) and it cost very little and this was when breadmakers were still a very expensive item.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
