I've just had a look at the Ryanair website and before I could find out the total cost I had to pick the flight and dates then watch the fare increase by 50% due to "taxes and fees", choose whether or not I wanted to add insurance, a hire car, baggage, excess baggage, musical instruments or sports equipment in my baggage and finally how I was going to pay. (which could vastly increase the total cost depending on the method of payment chosen).
So before I could get a total price that I would have to pay to enable me to compare it to other airlines, I would have to spend quite a while to go through most of the booking process.
IMO, this is a bit like going to Tesco and seeing a loaf of bread for 40p and taking it to the checkout where you are then told it will be an extra 10p VAT, 20p for the bag, 10p for the delivery charge to get it to the store and 5p for the shelf stackers wages so the "40p" loaf would actually cost me 85p.
Fair enough, but it's the way that you have to go through just about all of the booking process before this figure is known that pees off a lot of people.
While I can see your point, would you rather get the bread from Tesco at 85p, maybe 65p if you didn't want the bag and understand how they arrived at the final price, or pay £1.25 from another supplier and get no breakdown of the cost?0 -

I don't really care about how the final price was arrived at, all I want to know is how much I will be paying without having to go through a long drawn out process to obtain this figure.0 -
If you want cheap fares unfortunately you will have to put up with poor customer service!
If Ryanair did not charge extra for all the bits and bobs then it would not be called a low cost airline. (And it wouldn't make any money if it didn't charge for the extras)
Alternatively choose somebody else!0 -

Travel is very competitive. To get the accurate price (as opposed to the CHEAPEST price) requires you to enter your full requirements. Which requires more effort on your part. If a non-competitive price is presented, people go elsewhere thinking this is bad value for money.
Unfortunately most people say they only want the cheapest price. But then later discover they don't want the cheapest price, they want the cheapest price FOR THEIR REQUIREMENTS. These are very different things!0 -
From the opening post it appears that it is Alpharooms, not Ryanair who have added the £27 to pay by dedit card.
This happened to us last year when we booked a hotel only through Alpharooms and were charged £44. However they were over £200 cheaper than anyone else so overall we were more than happy.0 -
On a recent trip to Africa we paid £12.00 for priority boarding with Ryanair .
Admittedly they did give us priority at the terminal , but only onto the bus that took us to the aircraft , after that it was the usual scramble to board the plane . . .:D
It says on the website there is no guarantee people with priority will get on/off the bus first. Its a complete waste of money.0 -
Ryanair are changing the rules again on "fee free cards".

you're lucky, mine worked out at £36:eek: however, I can't really moan as I know they do this and had I been more organised I would have sorted myself out a prepaid visa card to avoid this charge, I believe they are obliged to offer at least one method of payment which does not incur charges. I agree though that it is very irritating and misleading to have to get through to the payment stage just to find out the total cost. I have noticed that easy jet do this also now, I think they used not to. Still for us three return flights to italy at £90 each is stil very good value, I would have paid that for one ten years ago.0

I don't know if this has been posted before and if it was written with Ryanair in mind but but It's worth a watch.
