O2 cancellation of contract

Hello... I need some help. In may I renewed my O2 iphone contract, I'm tied to it for 24 months. In August I lost my job and I am really struggling to pay it.... What I would like to know is if there is any way I can get the contract cancelled without having to pay anything. If O2 want the phone back, I'm more than happy to return it... Please help!!!

No way I'm afraid, besides begging O2 and appealing to their generosity/goodwill.
You can sell the phone and use the money for monthly payments.
Also you are probably allowed to downgrade to the next lower tariff at some point in the future. Check the T&C.

You probably will also find that irrespective of any arrangement O2 may reach with you, the double-whammy is that they also trash your credit file as well.

Again, a mobile phone contract is simply not worth the hassle of a credit reference agency disseminating your difficulties to a much larger audience - but as noted earlier, if you can sell the phone privately, (they won't want it back, it has no value to the network) this may help a little, as would downgrading to a lower tariff if permitted but networks often do not allow this, insisting on the agreed terms.

Ideally, if a friend of family member wishes to take on your liability (and payments) you can ask to re-assign the contract to another person, lifting the weight from your shoulders - it is always worth a try.
  • Thank you for your advice, much appreciated... I'll try begging to O2's generous side!!!
  • Good luck!!!!!
I d sell the phone and pay off the contract after getting it down to the lowest monthly level you can
