Erm, I bought it from Game. I've sent them two emails with no reply, how long would you wait before considering it a freebie?

Yes I spotted that I'd somehow read it as Play rather than Game (?).

I don't know how long is a reasonable time without looking it up TBH. You could try some googling for "goods sent in error" or the like. It's a fair while since I read up on it, but the basics (it's not your property) is definitely true.

I've had goods sent to me in error in the past - in some cases, the cost of recovering the item due to weight was more than the item was worth, so they told me just to keep it and enjoy it. Other times the companies would give a freepost stamp, and I'd happily return their items.

Ok, well I've sent them two emails, if they choose not to respond I'm keeping it. Will give it a bit more time.

Try a different email address (presumably you're not replying to an email sent to you which says "do not reply to this email"?) and/or check their website for a "contact us" form.
If you've honestly tried your best to contact them, I'd say leave it six months and then I think it's fair to keep it.
• Although people are very quick to take the moral high ground, a lot would probably be thinking along these lines.

In answer to the original question, I don't believe Game would be able to tell. I worked in a shop for a while (not a game shop), and as far as I am aware barcodes only identify the product line, not each individual product. Therefore I can't imagine you having any issues returning it to game for a refund.

After all, you have tried to contact them, they haven't replied. I think I would be doing the same in your shoes.

Game are still in a big mess, not just because of their "website maintenance" which is in week 3 but also their "new" delivery system (uses Citipost) which cannot delivery new games on release day.

All this has had a knock of effect on Customer Services who cannot cope. Refund requests are running about 2 weeks late and you cannot cancel pre-orders (continuing website "feature").

If you need service I'd suggest their Asst Cust Services Manager who replied to my emails within 24 hours.
Samantha.Bowyer@game.co.uk

Or you could provide feedback to their CEO Ian.Shepherd@game.co.uk who is also hands-on (but who is likely to be walking around Gamefest with a "there's not a problem" smile on his face for the next few days.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Not true, I had trouble doing this Thursday evening through my laptop browser, but logged on via my iPhone and cancelled it no problem.
