If he is a van driver get down the recruitment agencies until he gets full time. They are in constant need of contract drivers and can get you work within a week. Its not bad pay either.0

The only thing I can point you towards is saving money on food. £45 a week for 2 people and pets is a lot. I spend £45 per month on 3 people and 1 dog.
How? If you can do that I would love to know how unless almost self sufficient, could you share your secrets please?
Could your g/f find anything to sell on ebay to tide you over until she gets other employment? Not that easy, unless doing as a business you very rarely make big bucks on here - me and my hubbie have been trying for some time.
continualdiamond so sorry to hear of your predicament - it's too easy for it to happen these days.
Get your partner to do some research if possible this weekend on agencies in your area and get him to sign up on Monday. Drivers are always needed and this may help until something more permanent comes along. Get his CV together (yes even drivers could do with one) this weekend then he will be ready to go on Monday.
Also as he has been sacked he may qualify for job seekers (or whatever it is called these days). He should also find out about that on Monday. You may find you will qualify for income support for a short time.
Sorry not an expert on this but just trying of things for you to do - apart from panic that is. Good luck to you both and keep us updated.0 -
"Food shopping - £45 a week, includes pet food (4 cats/1 dog)"
I spend more than that, there's only one of me, and I have no pets. I take it that you all have small appetites (including the pets)?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

if payment protection paid out when people were sacked , then surely people would get sacked for a claim... dont think theyve got a claimstacey21 wrote:Does payment protections work if the person was sacked? Might be worth checking outI am a Whole of Market Mortgage Adviser

If it is a repayment mortgage you could change it to an interest only mortgage.
Obviously if it is already an interest only then you cannot change anything.
Its a new year and the papers and job internet sites are full of jobs. As long as your fiancee is flexible and willing to work with a good attitude he should have no problems getting a new job.0 -
First of all, can he query unfair dismissal?
Depending upon what he has been sacked for and whether he has had earlier warnings etc this may be worth looking into.
Agencies are always a good place to look and if you can get a temporary job then they are your last employer and will give you a reference rather than going back to the original company.
This is what we did when my other half was sacked ( for something he didn't do)0 -
Obviously, as mentioned before, get looking for another job asap.
Also consider speaking to your mortgage lender to let them know the situation. I'm sure they'd rather know now when they can help you out, perhaps by deferring payments until your fiance gets another job, rather than you just not being able to pay the mortgage one day without any explanation. If you're lucky, they may even get you some professional advice to help you budget.
Finally, to quote the Good Book: 'Don't Panic!'0 -
continualdiamond wrote:Mortgage - £435
Home ins - £9.27
Council tax -£101
Water/gas/electricity - £90 (don't know this for sure as rental had no gas and no water meter)
Food shopping - £45 a week, includes pet food (4 cats/1 dog)
Car ins - £65.03
Petrol - £20 a week
Loan - £216.15
Credit cards - £170
OD interest - £30
NTL - £45 a mth, includes ph call and internet
Tv licence - £11
Some thoughts:
If it is just your income, you should qualify for Council Tax Benefit, which would reduce that payment. Get on to them ASAP since Monday is a key day for claiming, and it is difficult to get it backdated.
Do you really need to give NTL so much? They own Telewest, who are offering Broadband, digital TV and telephone for 30 pounds per month. And maybe even broadband is a luxury you don't really need.0
