  • Are you seeing ghosting?
By that i mean is the image fuzzily reproduced, just to the right of the main image?
It's most noticeable on vertical lines.

I recently had this with a brand new monitor/tv i bought, used on an old desktop pc.
Using the laptop , HDMI connected, was perfect.

Drove me crazy trying different things. You can fart around with resolutions and refresh rates all you like, it might improve slightly, but you won't cure it.

I tried a number of different VGA leads, some filtered, some not, but still no difference, yet the pc and all the leads worked perfectly into my main tv.

This is almost certainly the VGA lead.
After trying a few different types i found this one finally cleared my problem.
Absolutely pin sharp now! Not even a hint of ghosting. Even better than the crt.

Here's a link to the 2m lead that finally worked for me
    (Sorry can't hyperlink, me being a n00b an all that :) )

i think that may be out of stock atm, but they also do a 1m or a 3m lead you could try

I bought and tried the 'Startech' lead which had filters (chokes) (bulges in the cable) at either end but that made absolutely no difference

Before buying the leads, i stripped the filtered VGA leads out of a couple of old crt monitors and joined them together. That worked perfectly so i knew it was a lead problem.

[FONT=&quot]You may well be correct as ive done a bit of investigating, my problem is not so much ghosting, more jagged characters, not razor sharp, as I would have expected.

I connected the new monitor to my laptop (Compaq Presario cq70) to see the picture quality using various vga cables and some are better than others- but i do also notice that the quality of transfer from laptop was very good, whereas the quality of transfer from my desktop to the monitor is not quite as good.

It does seem better but still a little short of the CRT sharpness.

To be fair the Hannsg monitor in question was first introduced 4-5 years ago. Hannsg has generally been at the "lower" end of LCD monitor quality spectrum, and lastly LCD monitor development is relatively new (and is getting much better), whereas the CRT business had developed over 50+- years and was generally better than earlier LCD monitors. Bearing that in mind you may not be able to do very much to improve matters.

Have to agree. I bought a Hannsg HW191D a couple of years ago but I was never entirely happy with it. Since then I have used it on a number of computers and using a combination of DVI and AGP cables and the quality never varies. The spare computer has a 22" BenQ monitor now and that is brilliant.
