newish monitor connected but poor quality

i have treid to connect a 4 year old monitor (hannsg hu196d) to my desktop and its quality is poor- its not very sharp at all. my current monitor, an old crt dell p991 shows graphics/colour clearly.

is there anything i can do- surely the monitor is not this bad?

What is the screen resolution set to?
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
  • Ive messed around with the different screen sizes and resolutions, even at its so-called optimal resolution 1280X1024 at 60htz or 75 htz it still fairly naff. I can’t find any driver in xp, so ive downloaded the default monitor driver and a few other and still no better.

The only thing i can find is a program called s3 and it still showing a tick by the crt monitor setting of my old monitor- but i don’t think this has anything to do with it.

as you probably guessed my computer is old, it only has 1 vga connection, but i dont think its that as the current monitor (dell p991) has superb quality.

i will try a different vga lead- otherwise its back to the old crt.

    any other suggestions are welcome

i could purchase a vga to dvi converter for the computer end connection, but im guessing it wont improve it as the vga is analogue, also i remember reading that will not work as the dvi cant convert vga analogue signals into dvi digital. The computer does not have a dvi connector

    Does seam strange.

maybe this practical review from 2007 might help? I did notice that the poster of the review did change his graphics card...

thanks for the link, i already read that review before puchasing!
its more or less what i have done without joy,

i guess it could be the graphics card, its obviously quite old- i thinks its 64mb.
  • some also affects with the video card and not just with your monitor. you can set a specific resolution with the graphic card/video card. it also depends on the specification of the video card. hope this helps :)
