That is not reliable.
Delivery receipt requests are designed for the Exchange type environment and it is the exchange server that generates the receipt.
Outside the corporate exchange environment any of the routing mail servers can and do respond to delivery receipt requests so it has no meaning. Also servers may be configured not to respond to requests.
Ah.I always thought they were generated when it reached the persons inbox.
