Tesco 8 cans coco cola glitch

I went into my local Tesco at Transit Way, Plymouth just now, and on the end of an aisle they had 8 x 330ml coke cans marked up at £3.29 on BOGOF. I felt this was a reasonable offer, and as I had a Sainsbury's £6 off £30 spend (Tesco take these vouchers) I decided to stock up.

Upon checking my receipt, I found that I had been charged £3.89 on BOGOF. Since I had bought 16 cases, my overcharge was £4.80, so went back and double checked before heading to CS. Lady at CS went to check the aisle, and confirmed that I had indeed been overcharged, and worked out everything, and then said, "And since we offer double refund, that is £9.60 to come back to you"

  • Just thought I'd add, the offer was advertised as ending tomorrow (Tuesday) and I'm pretty sure once a shopper points out the error the label is removed from that store, so not sure how many other Tesco shops you can make use of the glitch.
  • I've even been asked by the cashier when I handed over my tesco coupons "do you have any for any other stores, because we accept them too you know?" They are quite keen to promote this fact!!

  • The Sainsbury's voucher was a legitimate one, sent to me in the post from them. As long as they're in date and being used as per the same T&C's (not tobacco and gift cards etc) then Tesco accept them. Tesco accept these vouchers to encourage people to shop there, and to spend more than they might have done otherwise.

The point of my post was to report a pricing glitch which resulted in a good double refund, and one that I didn't plan when when starting my shop. People are reporting glitches like this all the time on these boards, and this is the first time that I've been able to take advantage of it, as quite often as soon as a customer brings the glitch to their attention, it's then fixed, so I never make special trips.

My tesco's extra wouldn't accept any of my vouchers for other supermarkets (the £5 ones off £? spend that are printed in the newspapers). I argued at customer services but they wouldn't back down :(((
  • Thanks, OP. Charged £46.48, DTD £14.20, Net cost £32.28 for just under 200 cans! 16p per can.

give Tesco head office a ring or email them, they will ring the store to inform them of the correct policy and will usually send you a gift card :)

Thanks Cryztal. Great idea. To be honest they said it was at the managers discretion and head office would say the same so I never took it any further. So do they generally accept Sainburys vouchers? The till spit ones ie £3 off a £20 spend.

Thanks for taking time to reply

I have used the till spit ones, and the ones that were sent to me in the post, and had no problem with my local Tescos. I haven't tried the newspaper ones, as I never buy the newspapers in the first place. Another option, if you still have the receipt, is to visit the link at the bottom of the receipt that asks for feedback on your shopping trip.
  • Thanks OP! Btw, my Tesco has two blue signs on the CS desk that say they accept Morrisons, Sainsburys and Asda vouchers. I have used loads of other supermarket vouchers with no problems. I think it is a bit more of a hazy area if you are using coupons for items you are not buying.

If your store will not accept coupons that the head office allows than shame on you for not asserting yourself and demanding what they are offering. Don't make other moneysavers feel bad.
