Help finding a car owner

  • Move it yourself, you are perfectly within your rights to do so as long as you don't cause damage to the vehicle. Tow it under cover of darkness.

Leave it blocking a road, and I mean in the middle of the road. The Police will then arrive pretty quick and be interested in finding the keep I can assure you. (disclaimer: this may not be sensible advice but sometimes you have to play a game to get what you want)

Have you used it ? I have and it provides you with both the insurance company and the details of the policy holder (including address). It's an automated system.

    It isn't "automated" at all.

And you have wrongly advised the OP (in your authoritative manner) there is "no problem at all" him using MID even though no accident is involved.

In fact first you must confirm that you have had a loss as a result of an accident involving the vehicle. (The OP would be committing an offence (data protection act) were he to follow your advice and falsely state this).

The only info currently given by mid is the name of the insurer, their claims department contact details and the insurance policy number for the vehicle.

And off course it is. Do you even understand how it works. It's just a database lookup. There's no person at the other end vetting every request.

You have (wrongly) posted here advising the OP he can happily commit an offence and use the MID to get the owners details (which they do not give), and that there will be "no problem at all" in him applying for the info as it's "automated".

As I have pointed out, you cannot use the system without first declaring the vehicle has been involved in an accident which you too are involved in.

Your response is just to make childish jibes.

This is from the MID's website, detailing what info they will give you:
If the registration is found on the MID, you will receive on screen the insurance details: policy number, name of insurer and the claims contact details to help you progress a claim.

You do not get any other info regarding the policyholder whatsoever from MID when using the £3.75 enquiry!

I will ask again ! Have you used the system ?

You seem to be ill informed regards the data protection act as well. Askmid falls under the freedom of information act.

I've used the system, it works fine and a declaration of that nature is small beans in the legal world unless you're then using the details for fraud - which you're not.

Easy way to solve the problem!
  • Ok just an update-i did what someone advised on here and put a note on the windscreen stating 'car abandoned-police advised etc'.
An hour later when i looked it had gone.
Result but annoying that despite me asking all the neighbours they all denied knowing whose car it was but one of them obviously used the security fob to let them in and out of the car park.
    Main thing is its gone.
Cheers for all the advice guys.
