question re batteries and life

I use my phone very rarely, maybe at the most twice a month but i can't predict when i am going to need it, so it is annoying that when i turn the phone on for that usage that the battery is already flat even though it has been turned off until that moment.
In my Digital camera i have hybrid batteries which hold their charge for up to a year before needing recharging.
Are there no phone batteries that do the same thing? Or any recs for phones/batteries that don't drain when not in use.

Have you tried just replacing the battery? Phone batteries do not last forever, a couple of years is about all you can expect before they start to fail to hold charge.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Get yourself an older phone. My S/E is on all day and most of the night 7 days a week and only needs charging once a week. I've been using it for about 4 years and never replaced the battery. New phones run the batteries down in a day and a half if used the way I use mine.

The OP's battery loses the charge even if the phone is switched off.
It's very likely to be the faulty battery, although it's worth trying to take it out to make sure it's not the phone's fault.
  • Most phones will still have a few bits, like the clock, still running when they are off. Lithium rechargeable batteries are happiest when stored partly charged rather than fully charged so don't be tempted to charge the phone up before leaving it switched off unless it shows well below half charge. The advice to buy a new battery could also be sensible if yours is more than 2-3 years old.

One thing that I've found to have a surprising effect on battery life is to switch to a network with a decent signal strength. I've just switched from a network that has poor coverage at home to one with excellent coverage and my battery life has almost doubled. This is because the phone transmits at a lower power when the signal strength is good.

No, modern lithium batteries lose their charge during storage. In fact stored for long periods the capacity will diminish as well.

In my few spare SE J132 Li-Ion batteries remain fully charged for many weeks if not months. The OP uses the phone at least twice a month.
