I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

Have stayed there 3 times and always been great- they have double rooms as well as dorms and the location is superb0 -
We stayed at the Charles Stewart Guesthouse when we went to Dublin... it's off O' Connell Street, about 10 minutes walk from the city centre if I remember correctly! Was clean, comfortable and friendly - and above all cheap - from about £40 a night (per room). It'll be our first port of call for rooms next time we go to Dublin!
