i ordered a thai meal for 3 of us last night which meant driving to a pub late at night pouring down with rain to treat me and the kids (18 & 22) so technically not kids. been having meals there for years and never one complaint. but last night left more than normal with a view to having it for lunch but too late now as had lovely bacon sandwich in bed courtesy of son only couple of hours agoand dinner will be around 7 so can i leave it in fridge and have it for dinner tomorrow night? plus after ranting all the way there about how lovely the rice is it turned out to be stuck in balls and tasted really stodgey only way i can describe it, is it too late to try to salvage rice in some way too?

Thai meal should be fine in the fridge until tomorrow night.
I don't know if it will solve the stodginess but I reheat rice by microwaving it with the addition of a couple of tablespoons of water in a dish with pierced clingfilm over it.
  • I personally wouldn't bother trying to save the rice - chances are, in a restaurant it's already been cooked in advance reheated once anyway, and it's not really safe to save it for a couple of days and do it again.

I'm always baffled by talk of rice and reheating. Never heard this til recently and have always been fine myself. Recently stored some leftovers from an INdian takeaway in the oven as there was no room in the fridge and it was fine the next day nuked..

It sounds as though it's Thai sticky rice that you've got - and you can tell by the name that it's meant to stick together, but when you make a little ball of it, it shouldn't stick to your hands.

Your meal will be fine to reheat and I hope it tasted just as good second time round.
  • Advice please
Will this be ok, i bought fresh diced shoulder of Lamb from my local butchers on saturday. (Its a really good quality butchers that only sells good meat.)its been in the fridge since then and i want to cook a Lamb curry tomorrow (possibly in the slow cooker) and then reheat it on christmas eve.

Will it be ok, I dont usually keep meat hanging around so long, and its obviously got no sell by date as it wasn't vac packed.

some resuts i search for says only to keep it for 2-4 days and it will be 4 days tomorrow.

Or should i put it in the freezer tonight? its just i dont have too much time xmas eve to cook it etc (who does!!)

    adviced appreciated.

Who knows? It may have been in the butchers for 1 day or 1 week, if it was stored in a cold fridge it will probably be alright. Some people reckon that meat that has been "hung" for a month or more is better, does any one know at waht temperature meat should be hung?
I would smell it and then taste it to see if it was ok before i wasted any other ingredients with it it. If you don't want to eat raw meat fry a little bit off it and see if it is ok.If you wake in the morning feeling fine the meat is probably ok

    This week i will be cooking the following meats and will let each cool before refrigerating, how long will the following be safe;

    Chicken
    Beef (cooked medium well)
    Turkey
    Pork

Secondly, can each be reheated? For example if i cook a big joint of beef and refrigerate it. Then the following day take a few slices and pour hot gravy on it will it be insufficiently heated?

I feel this will help several people so advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
