I'd use it too provided the seal hasn't gone on the jar. You'll soon know when you open it. Have a good sniff and so long as there are no "off" smells that you're not expecting, go ahead and use it.
If it's a jar of sauce, then it's more likely to be a "best before" date rather than a "use by". Use By dates apply to perishable high risk foods.
I've used jars of curry sauce that are over a year past their best before - and still here to tell the tale!0 -
If the seal is still intact then its fine, I even have jars open in the fridge that are out of date but are fine to use - the amount of vinegar, sugar and salt in them preserves them.0

I'd definitely use it;)
Once you've used it up you could easily replicate it for much less. Sorry, don't mean to sound bossyI'm just thinking -lemon juice, oil, spices, chilli, garlic, vinegar...I've got all those in my kitchen.

I normally do everything from scratch and definitely wouldn't buy the jar myself - but hey, for free, worth it! :T0 -

I've had an open packet of ready-cooked austrian air-dried sausage in the fridge for ages.
The Best before date is October 2008.
It looks and smells fine.
Do you think it's OK to eat it?
I was thinking of putting it in tonight's lentil stew..."Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Yeah I'd eat it.Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

Personally, as long as there's no-one 'high risk' in your household then I'd eat it. What's going to have happened in the seven days since the end of October? It's air-dried too, and given that you're cooking it again I doubt there'd be a problem.0

I'd eat it too, as long as it doesn't smell funny or have any green bits on it! It's what I did before use by/sell by dates or stuff I buy that's not pre-packed.I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead
