New house, new TV, no channels

I have just moved house and have bought a new television, however i cannot get any channels on the tv, from set up and everytime i scan for channels i just get a message saying, no channels found check antenna. I cant see anything wrong with the antenna and it is plugged into the tv fine.
I have signed up with Sky and had that fitted no problem, so can watch all the channels through that, however without sky my TV will not pick up either analogue or digital channels. Any ideas?

Could be anything from duff antenna to broken, disconnected wire.0

If its a new house you may have the socket(s) for the aerial connection but I bet the coax cable is just coiled up in the loft not attached to anything.Have you looked on the roof for a TV Aerial???
Its rare now for a builder to provide a terrestrial TV aerial on a new build!0 -

This.
We had the same issue, but the 2nd feed to allow us to get Sky+ was coiled up behind the single faceplate on the wall. A new dual faceplate, a trip to the loft to connect the 2nd feed and we're on track for Sky+0 -
I think a trip outside to look at the roof is in order...No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Its not a new house, its new to me. The house has been there about 100 years.0

OK, but does it have an aerial? If so, is it correctly aligned (compare to your neighbours). If yes, there may be a fault in the co-ax cabllng or connections. Check the cable where it is visible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Did the previous occupiers have Sky? and are there other sockets around the property? if so how many cables enter by the TV, you may need to provide the return path for distribution,
Have you looked in the loft, under the stairs for unplugged leads? they may have took the distribution amp with them, it happens a lot.0 -
When I moved into my house I found that the ex-owners had diverted all signals through a booster box. If yours is set up this way and the box is switched off it may help explain your issue. In my case the booster box was in the loft if thats of any help.

ahhhh, i have seen a strange box somewhere and i didn't know what it did, might have to investigate.....0

It needs to be powered for the signals to get through. If this doesn;t fix it - Maplins sell a device you can plug into the aerial lead and it confirms whether DVB signals are being received - a lot cheaper than calling out an installer.0
