Problems with SD card

Hi All, Just come back from holiday and had trouble with a SD CARD while I was there and have more hassle now I am back! Can anyone help please.

Problems when away were about 120 photos disappeared from the card. I then took some more and they seem to save to the card OK. But when I later reviewed the photos on the camera it would only let me access and view the last 30 or so I took.

So back home now I try and upload to pc. But the approximate 120 I lost on holiday are still missing plus around the last 120 I last took. So I am missing around 240 photos from the card. Any idea if I can retrieve them photos from the card and how?

Thanks.

I doubt it, why didn't you get a new card when you 120 photos went missing?

In hindsight yes I should have! But tested card and all was OK. A lesson learnt!!!

As anyone ever used this recovery programme without issues? Safe to download to pc?

Genuine according to the manufacturer when I asked after I purchased it online and was suspicious.

Any ideas on a recovery programme? Safe to use and easy to use? Don't want to end up with a virus!!!

Yes - Recuva should be Ok. I've used it no problem in the past.

Sadly if the posts above are right and it's the card itself that is faulty/fake, those pictures will be gone for good. If nothing deleted them then it just means that the memory location where the camera thought it was storing them did not actually exist...

The only true test of an SD card is one of the tools like H2testw (or F3 if you use Linux) as they actually write data to every memory location and then read to confirm it is there.

Thank you. What is H2testw please. Is that a programme to download and check the card. Is that programme also safe to use? I assume I should not do this until I have attempted to recover the images on the card?

I don't actually use it, as I don't use Windows, but others here have, and no problems reported.

Yes, you must not use it until you have attempted to recover your pics, and moved anything recovered off it onto your PC.
