After having my new iphone4 for just over 2 weeks, i received a text saying id used nearly all of my data (100mb) - i rang up o2 and after much deliberation and much (but friendly) complaining - the lady i spoke to and her manager decided i was misadvised (when i bought it - the girl told me that 100mb would be PLENTY and i would NOT go near that limit!)
They also told me that applications update themselves automatically and take a lot out of data usage! tut tut iphone...
Because of this and my severe disappointment in the sales advisor, i now have an added 500mb for free each month, courtesy of the lovely call centre lady (and her manager)
Try it!

Well done, but I guess very few people here have smartphones with less than 500Mb allowances0

I have one gig. Which is pathetic, and was sold to me as unlimited.
Can't believe that data usage limits are so low for these devices while the networks are allowed to refer to them as unlimited, huge, massive, our equally misleading adjectives.0 -
i use 2 gig a month with Orange and never get charged anything extra BUT they do slow me down a bit after i go past 750 mb a monthGet Appletv2 & XBMC in and thank me later :beer:0

If you have wifi at home - make sure you're using it.0

500mb  I use 3gb plus connected to wifi when at home
obviously im doing something wrong, its not like I play with my phone 24/7
The way networks market such small allowances is quite alarming, "oh
500mb will be enough for anybody", yes maybe in the days of 'dumb' phones
where using any kind of internet access actually meant browsing the web
on your phone.
With smartphones even if you dont actually 'use' the internet that 500mb can
easily be eaten up within a month, especially with those who have never had a
'smartphone' before, they set it up an leave it without a second thought with
facebook, twitter, emails, weather, apps etc etc updating themselves every half
an hour and !!!!!!, at the end of the month they are shocked when they have a
large bill for using twice their allowance.
How O2 can get away with offering iphones on plans with 100mb of data is
just beyond contempt, its like they have an agenda of making people go over
their allowances to pull in large fees.
But then again anybody that buys a smartphone on such a plan thinking it would
be enough really needs their heads testing, sync your emails once a day and
download a few apps and that 100mb will be gone in no time.
Christ with an android phone when you first set it up it will use that just with
the initial sync and updating the system apps, maps, gmail, flash etc0 -
i hate the way sales people say it will be plenty-how can 100mb be plenty if u say use it for a few hours every day?
500mb is enough for me but i dont use the data alot im mostly on wifi at homeWhat goes around-comes around0 -

You can't really criticise O2 for enticing people into large bills
1) They mark the 500Mb + unlimited wifi bolt-on on their website as the "recommended" one for the iPhone (not 100Mb)
2) They don't charge extra! Nothing would be added to your bill unless you explicity ask them to add a data bolt-on!
From the website:
"What happens if you use up your data allowance?
We’ll text you when you’ve used 80% of your monthly data allowance to let you know you’re almost at your limit. Once you’ve used the rest of your allowance we’ll text you again to let you know and you’ll experience a slower data service until your next bill cycle starts."0 -
Ive now deleted a lot of my apps that were being updated a lot and using loads of my data. Have only used 250mb since and got another 250mb to go with only a few days left - think itll be plenty - wifi is the way!so far....Radox Waterproof book...10 Business cards (ideal for new pad!)...Fabric samples...Shower timer...Flush saver...Seeds ahoy...0
