I had to budget to do this in the beginning I was a single parent on the same wage as the benefit I would have been entitled to if I hadn't got a job, I didn't smoke or drink much, I didn't have flash holidays etc it was just a matter of priorities.
Blame the Tories if you must but at least they are not spending money we don't have anymore which Labour did for years.
I never said Labour was blameless, but the difference is that the Tories have an ideological obsession with cutting public spending regardless of the economic circumstances. The Conservative Party is a party of elitist plutocrats, it is not like the centre-right Christian Democratic parties of other European countries which at least pay lip service to some basic principles of social democracy. The Conservatives are a party dedicated to making the rich richer and everyone else, working and middle class together, poorer. This is fact.0 -

Which is why he's one of the only 2 Labour leaders in the last 50 years who've won elections. Nobody wants "real" Labour.0 -
Bolloc*s. No one said we'd live to 200 in the 70's. 100 maybe. And hovercraft and moving walkways and robotics are all here like the Jetsons.
Health conditions can be caused by aging, but many/most are caused by how you choose to live your life and how strong your genetic coding is.
My parents never smoked and drank moderately, yet they still died of heart disease and cancer in their 70s. Maybe it was genetic misfortune, but how can you control that? We are still a very long way from being able to manipulate our genetic codes to prevent diseases. Maybe 100 years away.0 -

Nobody? Yeah, maybe nobody in Surrey or Buckinghamshire.
Hmmmm. Look at Scotland - why has Labour done so badly there in the last few years? Because the people have been fed up with the wishy-washy Tory-lite policies of Blair and Brown and decided that the SNP woud delivery more social democracy. There is more to the UK than the south-east.0 -
For info, the OP's username refers to a French revolutionary even the other French revolutionaries thought too revolting so they had him guillotined. Gracchus Babeuf's name itself referred to the Gracchi brothers, tribunes of the people in Rome of c120 BC, more rabble rousers put to death. Just so you know where they're coming from.
Ah, beaten to it by ffacoffipawb.
Nonsense. Gracchus Babeuf is considered to be the first true socialist, even before Karl Marx invented the concept. He wanted the French revolution to deliver social justice, but he unwisely became embroiled in a conspiracy against the government.0 -
The regular contributors on here are not used to such lively and intellectual debate, which is usually found on other sub forums on MSE. At the very least Mr Babeuf, you should be congratulated for getting us all a little hot under the collar!
You are, however, still wide of the mark with your all of your proposals and comments, from whichever angle mainstream political angle you look at it. I nearly feel off my chesterfield sofa and spilt my large glass of brandy on the Axminster carpet, when you declared that you are only in your early 40's! Oh dear, you haven't got too long to readjust your retirement plans to compensate for the loss of two years state pension!
I think you need to get angry about something that really matters!0 -

Pity the socialist scum (see, we can use that word as well) wasn't put down at birth then.
As you may have noticed, apart fom this post, you're now talking to yourself. Your silly adolescent arrested development leftiness is boring now.It only takes one tree to make a thousand matches, it only takes one match to burn a thousand trees. As well, the cars are all passing me, bright lights are flashing me.
Johnny Was. Once.
Why did he think "systolic" ?0 -

Well for people like you the state pension is obviously mere small pocket change, but sadly for millions it is something they have to rely on. I'm saddened by the glib and puerile attitude that so many people on this forum have about what is an essential social safety net. I'm relatively fortunate in having a decent job, but for millions it will mean having to work for longer while in poor health.0 -

The UK may not include Scotland in a few years! An SNP overall majority, and the polls showing ever increasing support for indepenance - now more people are in favour than against:

That'll finish Labour permanently south of the border :rotfl:0 -
So the changes speculated in the article would cost you about £7500. not £50k.
He's ranting over mere speculation quoted in just one newspaper. Nothing has yet been decided, just various options being explored at this stage.
Gawd help the OPs blood pressure if they decide to raise the SP age to 68 as well as advancing the timescale0
