Lidl is brill!
I buy the pool shower cream for sensitive skin (lovely smell) 39p and there are lots of other scents
Fruit and veg at my store can be a bit hit or miss but when its good it is good and great value - they also do a lot of half price weeks which i use to stock up and make loads of soups etc.
other bits i buy are the big tub of coleslaw 99p and like the creamy ones you pay far more for in other stores, tinned tomatoes and sweetcorn around 19p i think, cold meats are a lot cheaper than other stores and a bit different variety, little tub of fresh prawns 99p, lots of different yoghurts all at good prices oh and the only ready meal i buy (from any shop) the lasagne at £2.19 delish!
I would say just give stuff a try that you would normally buy0 -
a few tips for lidl - they dont have baskets - you need a £1 coin for the trolley and bring your own carriers or you have to pay - also they like quick service so you put your bought stuff into the trolley and bag it after you have paid
good luck0 -
I'm new to shopping at Lidl but so far I reckon fruit and veg are cheaper, some of the non-food stuff REALLY cheap like bin bags don't bother with the UK well known brands not much difference. I view it as a first port of call once a week for the stuff they do have, then the market, then Tesco to mop up!0

I do the majority of my shopping at Lidl these days and I love it! From the above posts.....the large tub of luxury coleslaw has been down to 49p for the past few months in my local store. The jar of pasta sauce that was seen at the open day was poss the bolognaise with extra mushrooms and think this is about 67p or so. They also do large jars of lovely curry sauces for 72p which are really handy if you happen to be a shift worker.
I get loads of stuff in Lidl and usually only end up spending about £40 for a big shop compared to it being about £60 in Morrisons or Tescos.
In fact......I am heading off there now so will see what bargains I can find today and report back!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Instead of buying carrier bags from Lidl or taking my own (which I always forget to do) I find some empty boxes on the fruit & veg section which I put all my shopping in, then lift it all out & into my boot.0

Like others have said, it's trial and error what you like. It's also worth taking your receipt and comparing it back to Tesco prices as not everything is cheaper at Lidl. However, you may well find that the Lidl version is nicer than buying the value brand at the supermarket - I always think Lidl's tinned tomatoes for example are much nicer at 19p than the cheapo ones you can get in Tesco and elsewhere.
They also have special offers on each week on household/leisure/clothing etc things which you can see on their website.
Oh, and BTW if you have young kids - the trolley only has one seat and it has no straps! That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0 -
tinned toms - same price as tesco value but tastier
cans of lidl own red bull - about 25p and tastes exactly like the real thing
any chocolate
meat (so far have tried their mince, pork chops, lamb chops)
cheese - very cheap and excellent quality
tinned pudding rice
tinned low fat custard
eggs
yogurts - half the price of muller
sliced meats/deli stuff - excellent value
diet coke not too bad
lidl own kettle chip crisps - very yummy!
veg (when it's half price, otherwise not worth getting really)
frozen garlic baguettes - the only brand i can cook without it going rock hard
snack sized pizza (6 in a box for £1.99) base is crispy and topping is yummy0 -
Kidney beans are very cheap and good from Lidl. I buy a tray of them and a tray of chopped tomatoes which keeps us going for quite a time.

Lidl is fine for a lot of things, but the trouble is you can't get everything there and so we always have to go to Tesco or ASDA to top up and we usually spend more in the long run. EG.
You can get chick breast, curry sauce, naan bread and rice, but no pappadoms or mango chutney.
Some great LIDL things.....
