12.1.07 what small DFW/MSE thing will you do/have you done today?

Morning all!

Well the end of another week is upon us and my small move towards becoming Debt Free today is an extra Mystery Shop this afternoon.

I have also taken my DS off school dinners, and back onto packed lunches, thereby saving £9.50 a week!

What small DFW/MSE thing have you got planned for today?

  • Setting up a spreadsheet listing our monthly expenses. Used Martins budget planner a few months ago, but have never done anything with the figures. Hopefully seeing it all in black & white will help to not spend it!

I would love to list this as my DFW thing for today, but I have a morbid fear of spreadsheets - I still use a big piece of paper and a marker pen!!

Sooo, my DFW things today are:
    1. I've been moving my bedroom around since 5am (when woken up by housemate), so that I get more sleep and am less inclined to miss breakfast, thereby eating chocolate at 11am.

    2. Will lIst a pile of books on eBay, including my beloved James Bond novels :(

    3. Taken my leftovers to work for lunch.

4.Counted out a pot of change to pay into the bank.

    5. Will listen to MSE MArtin on Jeremy Vine show.

    6. Preparing my bike for a long bike ride tomorrow instead of spending money.

That's it - have a great weekend everyone!

Todays plan is to get my head round working out overpayments on the mortgage and drumming up some additional business for my hairdressing sideline. I do extensions but its so cyclical, can really only see the same person every 3-4 months or so!

  • Good morning everyone, I've got a day off today and have signed up to do 3 mystery shops, they were trying to get me to do more but I've never done more than 1 in a day before.

I'm also going to find out about reclaiming bank charges. I dont think I've got heaps to get back but at a guess its about £300-£400 which would help pay my car tax and the remainder of a catalogue. I wasnt sure I would get it with it not being too high, but after reading some stuff on this website, I'm definately going to try.

Have a great day everyone. x

I got my first bill from Orange since taking out a new contract and it was for £5 more than I thought, so I was on the phone to them first thing to ask whether it was a mistaaake or whether I'd crossed billing dates and been charged pro rata from the month before. It was the latter, so that's ok. Wasn't a wasted call though, as I was able to push my debit date back two days so it falls on the day after I get paid.

Last night, as I mentioned yesterday, I fixed my friend's boss's PC. Simple reinstall, but took forever. I started 8pm and I think I was in finished in earnest at 12.30... XP takes forever... when I think it took all of 5 minutes to last install ubuntu on one of my ailing PCs, then install kubuntu over the top of it and then go back to ubuntu again! 4.5 hours seems like a sick joke.

Still, he offered to pay me, so what's a reasonable fee to charge for a simple(ish) reinstall, driving it over (at midnight no less - it's a restaurant), and setting up their internet and email account? I don't know how much a professional would charge. Any ideas?

    Hi hbl

I'd say £15/hour. My partner does this kind of work and that's his minimum rate.

Using some OAP potatoes that in the past would have gone to the compost bin. Making an ebay pile and claiming my fees from survrys and lightspeed done. Have a great day everybody.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking mate's rates on this one, mainly because this is the first time I've sorted out a PC for a business, and also because it's the new owner of my favourite pub/restuarant. Therefore £10 an hour?

I'm thinking of offering to redesign the menus and winelists, as they're tired from the last owner and could use an overhaul, so might work out quite well.

Just a NSD for me today. I need a day to get out a walk, get some exercise etc!

Incidentally, does anyone know where a scavenger might pick up a free (or very very cheap) pedometer these days? Im walking to work when i can and it would give me a boost.
