Only tried the Juvela version, and it was horrid. Maybe it was cooked wrongly but it ended up resembling some sort of glue paste with a few inedible shards of pasta shape.
  • Have a browse on Coeliac UK website...They have a list of approved gluten free food suppliers and most will send out a introductory welcome pack for newly diagnosed peeps with some samples of their products :D...Also a biggy is when you cook GF pasta it only takes a fraction of the time of usual wheat pasta...Hope that helps!...Good luck! :D

I've recently been told to eat a wheat and gluten free diet. I tried the Free From range and didn't enjoy the texture or taste.
There seem quite a lot of products out there but many are pricey so if anyone can recommend any (penne, spaghetti or fusilli are my favs) that are actually nice - so could be eaten by OH who is not wheat intolerant - that would be really helpful. I've spent a lot of money on products that I didn't like. thanks!

do you need gluten free or wheat free or both? Remember not all GF products are wheat free so you will need to check the labels. If you have suspected coeliac disease you will still need to eat gluten in your diet to get a confirmed diagnosis by biopsy or antibody test.

My OH is has ceoliac disease and get's his stuff on prescription. It's Juvela and we all eat it so we don't get any cross contamination since he's massively sensitive. The main thing is to not overcook it as it disintegrates. Also maybe try the corn based pastas. We've been eating it so long that I'm not sure if we would actually like wheat pasta:o. Also try making your own gnocchi...it's yummy and easily replaces pasta in meals. make a huge batch and freeze some so you have instant meals. Be careful with spelt and buckwheat etc as you can still be sensitive to it. Oh and try polenta as well as it's corn based.

Love to know you gnocchi recipe if you would like to share it. I sometimes buy them when I can find Gf - but i'm thinking they are quite easy to make

not sure about the gluten as don't have coeliac (not tested but the specialist thinks it's not that) just huge intolerance as in pain and 6 months' pregnant look :-O but definitely can't eat wheat. I used to be able to eat white, refined bread/pasta and just had trouble with the wholewheat stuff, but age has wrecked that one!

I can't eat buckwheat unfortunately. Those of you struggling as well could have a peek at the low FODMAP diet, although I can eat a lot of the fruits it bans but can't eat some of what it says is fine, so it's not gospel. Very restricted diets are boring and lead to increased chocolate consumption :D

I have bought some Tesco free from whatsit to try again as brown rice can be tricky too which rules out Doves.
I hope it's edible if drowned in pesto (I can't eat tomato sauce either any more, woe).

I only eat gluten free pasta and have found Doves farm brown rice pasta really good (available in tesco). Also I like Risotopia rice pasta. Corn pasta is ok but it cooks really quickly and can fall apart easily.

be all right for my old teef then :D. Joking apart, I have problems with brown rice bloating me up so am a bit worried about brown rice pasta.
I don't think OH is going to enjoy his corn penne mind you ;)
  • Don't laugh but the best gluten free pasta I've found is the Bob the Builder one in Sainsburys. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It's also the only gluten free pasta my son will eat - admittedly he's probably swayed by the Bob the Builder element but seriously, it has a much better texture than others I've tried, even Doves Farm and unlike the latter, tastes ok cold instead of getting that horrid grainy texture.
Armchair shopper and cook - albeit with a ready meal on my lap and "plates of meat" in a foot spa!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm a coeliac and if I do eat pasta I use the Tesco free from one. I'm not overly keen on any of them though and no one else in the house will touch them so we tend to stick to potatoes or rice.

I've got my packet but will have to be pretty hungry to start cooking it. I love real pasta so the restriction is really annoying. Not sure how I'll ever manage to go on holiday to Italy ever again either!
