Yes we do run Vista. How do I go about backing all the files up and doing a repair?
Looking forward to new ventures

If you have an external hard drive, then just drag and drop your personal folders to it - eg Docs, music, pictures, etc. Copying to CD would take forever, copying to DVD's could work if you don't have too much - eg DVD can take about 4+GB - otherwise get your self an external hard drive - always useful for backing up - never know when a PC fails! Get one from £40 depending on size....

Re system restore, you have a hidden partition which will revert your system to factory setting, I think it is <ALT> F10, but either google it or check your handbook or call someone who specialises in Acer,

You would of course have to reload programs/driver sofware (eg printers) from either your original disks/downloads

Thanks so much for your help, looks like that is the only option but at least it hopefully won't cost a fortune. I will start looking for a external hard drive. It won't start every time I try to start it so fingers crossed when I get the external hard drive I fan get it to start and put it on safe mode so I can get the data off. Thanks so much for your help.
Looking forward to new ventures
  • As its working in safe mode it does sound like a software problem but might be worth trying this. Use it without the battery (just use power lead).
