My lap top was working fine this morning but now when I switch it on it turns itself off again. I have managed to get it to go onto the start screen once but then it turned off again. Now when I turn it on nothing comes on the screen and the start lite flashes and then it goes off. Any ideas?
Looking forward to new ventures

Start with the obvious, is the adapter charging the battery?0
-
Yes it definitely is. The charger lite is on and the time it did switch on for a little while the battery is also almost fully charged.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0

One thing to try is to remove any build up static (this has worked before). Remove the battery and adapter, then hold down the on/off switch for ten seconds. The replace power and retry.0

Argh, thought it worked then as it went to the acer screen but then it flicked off again.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0

I assume that you have removed any attachments. Not sure it will help but I assume you have tried with battery alone, and again without bettery, ie external power only? Are you getting any BIOS beeps?0

Sorry I'm not too good with ttech stuff. What are BIOS beeps? Yes I have tried with just battery and just external power.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0

normally when a PC/laptop starts okay you get a single beep from the PC (BIOS). On occasion you may get a series of beeps, which depending on the BIOS maker will give a clue to whats failing. No beeps usually means a power or major issue with the board. Put your ear to the keyboard when you start it to see if you can hear any discernable beeps....0

Oh ok, no there is no beeps.Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0

I googled the problem and it said to press f8 at the start and then select start in safemode with networking. I did this and it is now working on safe mode. Does this mean it has a virus or something then?Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0

From what you have said/tried it sounds like a major issue - you could just check the adapter socket jack plug is giving power properly with a multimeter, the outside is usually negative, if it reads the voltage it is supposed to give, then it will be a board problem in all probability.
Googling "acer aspire 5735z booting problem" indicates that you are not alone, but quick answers I'm afraid - sleep on it, with all power removed, and try again in the morning..
edit if it starts in safemode, thats a great start, I would back up all your data while you have the chance, as the next step is probably either a repair or full re-install - you're running Vista?
I have had a bunch of Vista systems recently with this problem - I have tried endlessly to find the cause, thought I got it fixed, but just reverted. A re-install has solved the problem in each case. Its not a registry problem as we tried restores, we also tried a system file check.0
