Reducing levels of Tobacco/cigarettes from EU

(I've been told that's the preferred method for HMCE i.e. to abandon cigarettes, as then there's no seizure, therefore no paperwork and no right of appeal).
Sorry but thats poop, abandoned or seized goods the passenger still gets a c156 (notice of seizure), warning letter, a notice 12a (right to appeal) and a notice 1.
Even if goods are seized the passenger still has the right to appeal the seizure as they do if the goods are abandonedAbsolutely agree phatbear! It does make you wonder if the officers trying to work on the "front line" are looking forward to October!
As I said its not going to make much of a difference to usLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
I'm gobsmacked to say the least. My partner & I always bring back the full allowance for personal use, it's about 5 months worth for me. We usually have a holiday to Spain & have also done a couple of ferry trips as foot passengers to Spain at the opposite end of the year. It practically pays for the holiday & the ferry trips have been a nice few days away & save a fortune.
I can't believe that the commission will allow this to proceed as it flies in the face of EU legislation. The government were already on shaky ground at 3200, & only got away with it through fear.
It's also discriminatory. If you live on the South coast & next to a port, it's easy enough to nip over the channel, for those in the North, It's a long trek & not easy to do more than a couple of times a year.0 -

What a ridiculous comment.
I like the odd tot of a good malt whisky and I enjoy visiting distilleries and partaking of a few tasting sessions but as I live in the south of England should I consider suing the whisky makers due to the fact that they have decided to have their distilleries in Scotland where it's not easy or cheap for me to visit as often as I would like?0 -
I don't see the link at all I'm afraid, unless you pay half the price for the whisky in Scotland than you would pay at home?0

Your earlier comment stated that the ruling was discriminatory because someone who lives in the south finds it easier to get across the channel than someone who lives further north.
My comment stated that someone from the north finds it easier to get to a distillery that someone from the south would, yet when we both get to Scotland or across the channel we both pay the same price for whisky or tobacco.
What is the difference between the 2 scenarios?
If I take your comment and change a few words then it is exactly the same.

Well the discrimination thing was a bit silly thinking about it & I apologise, but I would hope you get my general thrust, that those in the North, are not able to make frequent trips to buy smaller allowances & would usually bring back larger amounts to make a special trip worthwhile.
Reading between the lines, from earlier posts, I'm getting the impression that anyone bringing back the previous allowance, would be unlikely to be challenged, unless they did it every week, rather than once or twice a year?0 -
Am I the only one who thinks cracking down on large 'personal' imports of tobacco is a good thing? The current level of 3200 is huge and clearly a lot of large consignments are being partially or completely sold on.
Other imports from the E.U. are sold on for profit e.g German motor cars. Are those import numbers set at 800 or 1kg?
IMO it is HMG screwing those who wish to make a perfectly legal profit from the resale of tobacco duty paid imports.

When we voted yes to join the common market it was for the removal of trade barriers and the free movement of all good between mamber states
What did we get?
A European parliament, Euro MP's straight bananna regulations and other expensive drivel
We did not vote for Customs or whatever they call themselves these days applying an arbritrary limit of 800 cigarettes even though they have been purchased legitimatlEy in the EEC WITH vat BEING PAID
So UK government policy is to hit the poorly paid joe public because HMRC are incapable of finding true smugglers - goods or people
But we only have ourselves to blame - we caused the banking crisis didn't we0 -
Fking hate being British.0
