Lovefilm retentions

I phoned to cancel Lovefilm and was told that if I ring customer services they might have some special offers for me. I looked up their 0844 482 0123 number and found it cost 30p-a-minute to ring from my mobile phone, so I emailed them instead. I wrote I would stay if they would give me a 25% prepayment discount and they agreed! I prepaid using the 15% discount route and they gave me a credit for the rest of the money to make it up to 25%.

I told my Mum about this as she has Lovefilm and she emailed them saying she planned to leave, so they closed her account! I guess it doesn't work every time therefore.

if you email to ask them to close it, they will close it instantly. I'm guessing you asked them for 25% or close your account?

Yes, that is what I asked them.

I don't think accounts are closed instantly as they require the discs to be sent back first, and accounts can always be reactivated.

I know they do 25% promotions from time to time anyway, so when the next one comes round my Mum can reactivate her account.

She will probably receive a letter in a month or so with an offer to come back at a competitve rate. The last one I got was first 3 months free.

I got an email recently to reactivate 3 months for the price of 1 - will hold out if there is a chance of 3 months free!
