Cheap delivered quality coal in cheshire recommendations pls

Can anybody suggest a good supplier in the Knutsford area. Money is in short supply, so will probably have to just buy a few bags.. But I think quality varies? I don't want stuff that is uneconomical.. [I've been out of the open fire game for a number of years..]

Get your Yellow Pages and look for a coal merchant. Almost always they will be the cheapest source. It is possible to buy in bulk, but you will need to buy a vast quantity and be able to store it. Even then, the savings aren't likely to be great.

    Hope that's some help.

What is considered 'bulk'? I'm going to make a coal store this weekend, does it have to be watertight or is airflow recommended like a logstore?

It should be watertight, yes - if only to prevent the muck that flows off it when coal gets wet. Coal bunkers were (and still are) made from concrete or galvanised steel. They need to be sturdy. Airtightness isn't a requirement.

My local coal merchant quotes prices for up to 1,000 kg at a time (ie 50 open bags) and says call for prices beyond that. I read somewhere that Fergusson do bulk deliveries by the pallet load, but you'd have to ask them http://www.fergussoncoal.co.uk/

OK, mine will be made from pallets bolted together and then slate tiled to be watertight top and sides . Thanks A Badger.
