Voda contract...Air tight?

Hi all, me and my o/h have vodafone contracts,we initially had a £16 / month contract each which ran out in November.I rang them up to find the address to write to for cancelling contracts and the Voda c/s talked me into taking a special offer on the talk 75 deal as he said it would cover our usage ,at £10 a month it seemed a bargain, but I underestimated the amount of texts I send and the 1st bill I had was MORE than most of the ones I had under the last contract.Of course I didn`t realise this until I had my 1st bill of the new contract, by then it was too late to cancel, they want to charge me £170 to cancel the contract which is £10 a month and ends November. Is there anyway out of this? I am using an o2 sim now which is £10 a month with 300 texts...this still works out cheaper than just using the voda contract! So am I stuck with it ? Voda c/s were not willing to help,as the phones are our own will this make a difference or am I stuck .I know it is only £10 a month but if anyone knows a way out of it I would be very grateful...

The first bill is always more because it is more than a month to get back on track of the monthly billing.

Vodafone charge monthly (jan-feb) but if you signed up on the 10th December then that bill would be from the 10th december until the end of Jan to get back on track to bill monthly.

As you are over 14 days then you are tied into the contract unfortunatley.

After the first bill unless you go over your inclusive minutes / texts it should be the £10 a month as you agreed to, which is still less than your old £16 a month, so your better off.

My old contract included more texts in the price and was only about £20 a month in total when calls were included.I was just an idiot to carry on with a Voda contract which as it seems now is unsuitable.....

  • How about voda's half price add-ons(not sure what they are called) you can but text in bundles which work out cheaper! I believe you can change package on voda upto once a month.
  • Hi daymo,

Sorry to hear of the problems you've had. I work for Vodafone and would be happy to pass you on to a team who would be able to have a look at your account for you. -1- has covered the key points already (which you may have already been told by customer services). Additionally, what we could do is review your last bill, weigh up the texts you've sent and then suggest possible alternatives or adjustments with regards to text packs. We would need to see your account to know all the details, however.

If you did want to get in touch again, you could go to https://www.vodafone.co.uk, select 'contact us' then 'email'. If you leave the short-code FIT135 at the start of the message, including the relevant data protection information and (if you wish) a link to this thread, this will get you passed through to a team who monitor online customer feedback.

I basically feel that I have no need for a contract phone anymore.I guess I will just have to see out the contract! I will not pay voda £170 for cancelling a £10/month contract....BTW the 14 day get out clause is woeful especially when you are billed monthly, its my fault at the end of the day for listening to their c/s.I thought as it was just a contract I was paying for( I am using my own mobile) that there might have been a way out...I guess not..
