My parents static caravan has central heating and double glazing. It's really toasty warm in all the rooms, even in cold weather.

I've stayed in one that only had a gas fire in the sitting room and I found the bedrooms and bathroom to be cold.

I would certainly pay the £50 extra as I think you will find it worth it.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Statics are cold in winter, but October shouldn't be too bad.

Many sites have limited capacity for electricity, so I wouldn't plug in extra fan heaters.

If you do, don't use the kettle or anything else electric which gets hot.

Take warmer clothing than you would need at home.

The central heating will help a lot, but punching some warmth into a tin box can take some time, so you need to predict when it's going to be cold and turn the heating on an hour or two before.

Around dawn can be the coldest time, so it may be worth setting the heating to come on at 4 or 5am for a few hours.
  • in my younger days my Mum would light the oven and leave the door open
Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!
  • As long as the budget one has electric heaters and a fire you should be ok. We went in one in February one year and just left the heaters on while we went out, it was really toasty and we didn't use the fire once the whole week we were there.
  • We went to Filey a couple of years ago at half term Because we have a dog we could not have a Deluxe caravan so took mattress toppers, extra quilts, pjs the lot. We were so cold I went to bed fully clothed at 9 oclock, ds slept in the living room with the dog and had the fire on all night. DH and DS (grown man - aged 20) begged to go home the next morning and we packed up and left so didn't even last 24 hours. I think you have made the right decision.

Have a great time - we have plumped for a cottage with Central Heating and a fire this time just in case
  • We have our own caravan and go in November and December and with central heating its fine, no colder than at home..Spent to many years in older caravans with no heating, wearing socks and long pjs and not daring to put out an arm or a leg from under the duvet..Its horrible when its cold, fan heaters can make a noise so not always easy to sleep with them going and the rooms tend to get cold very quickly once they are turned off.
I would definitely book one with proper central heating ( not panel heaters)
  • I have a static in Whitby, single glazed and no central heating. It has a gas fire in lounge. panel heater in double bed room and we have a tiny halogen heater and a very small oil filled radiator. The power has to be watched as it has a 16 amp supply. Last December when it was -10 out side I managed to keep it to +12 at night without the gas fire on. So if you have your own low wattage heaters October should be a doddle.

  • Op has now booked an upgraded one - see post 11
  • Thanks for all the input everyone. I was confused further by someone telling me yesterday that they thought they had booked a caravan with central heating but it turned out that it just had extra heaters fixed to the walls in all the rooms which were useless anyway. I guess these are the Panel Heaters that adviceforall refers to.

We will go prepared in any case, should have plenty of room in the car so will take plenty of warm clothes and some extra bedding. At the end of the day this is a budget break so we will go with a spirit of adventure!!
