New boiler advice

You can have a vertical flue, it does not have to be ran to an external wall.
It has to be continous throughout its length, adequately supported and terminate OUTSIDE.
There is no legislation in place to state it has to be on an outside wall. Just outside is perfectly fine.
However, you will have to be able to follow the flue throughout its length, and support it as per the manufacturers instructions. The legislation coming in, in 2012, is to ensure we (gas engineers) can inspect flues throughout their length, you would not believe how many have been 'boxed in' for 2mtr+ runs.
With regard to repairing it... is it the BOILER or a component on the SYSTEM that needs replacing?
What problem are you experiencing?
What is it you have been told is irrepairable?
The only thing not economically repairable is usually a heat exchanger, as the work involved, and actually getting hold of one, tends to be more hassle than its worth.Mortgage Free Wannabe

Well folks, the combi boiler is in. It had been repaired on quite a few occasions over the past few years and from a resale point of view, a new boiler is a positive addition. Thanks for all the advice. It has definitely helped.
The flue issue was because the plumbers hadn't noticed there was a room above the boiler so the flue would have gone right through the middle of a bedroom to get to the roof. It's a bunglow with a room in the roof so it's not entirely unreasonable that it was missed.0
