    I believe compulsory financial education should not be prioritised over basic numeracy and literacy when one in five teenagers leave school without these skills.

    Financial education is nice to have - these basic skills are essential and our failure to provide them is a disaster for the country.

    Emphasis on critical thinking education would create the skills necessary to make effective decisions in life without the likelihood of information becoming out of date and irrelevant.

    That's that off the agenda until at least 2015 then. The chances of the coalition giving serious airtime to anything Balls is in favour of are probably near enough nil!

    Hey, Tories tend to be rich, right? Expenses fraud aside, I'd rather get financial education from a Tory than someone who believes in Gordon's financial prowess.

    There is a big problem with the headline. It should read 'Ed Balls echoes calls for compulsory financial education.
    What qualification do you get for studying it and passing the tests ?
