strange witheld calls

my hubby has been getting witheld calls and when he answers, it then starts to ring out, i just told him to disconnect , but does anyone have any idea what this is about ? is it one of the many scams that people talk about, it wont be able to take much money from his phone if it is a scam as he is on payg with approx 60p on his credit as it is his spare phone

It would be possible for someone to do this using an internet phone company called jajah. Perhaps someone has registered your hubby's number by mistake, or as a prank? There is an automated voice that tells you what number is being called, but its very faint and you have to listen carefully for it. That's all I can think of! I doubt if its a scam, who could gain from it?

Might just be the wrong number.

Just incase though don't press any numbers if asked to. Just hang up asap.

It could be a call-centre that autodials your number from their list and there is no-one at the call-centre to deal with the call when the connection is made, hence a bit of a pause (if they're too busy to answer the connected line, the connection is dropped) . I get it all the time. If no-one says 'Hello' within 1 second, I put the phone down. Harsh, I know, but I do detest these timewasters.
