ASDA online exclusive car insurance RIP OFF

Got off the phone with them jsut now. The did not get my recorded delivery next day yesterday And say that the receipt the post office gave me is invalid???? I smell rat. They accept the extenuating circumstances that I was away and the letter crossed, but refused to reinstate my cover unless I pay an extra £75 admin fee plus my insurance premium which the say will go up at their discretion. Plus I must pay £1.70 a day for my cover and £75 cancellation fee. So I calcuate I lose about £150 and that is if they get the recorded delivery letter I sent. It seems all so immoral and ambiguous.0

Did you ask why the policy was cancelled, they dont just cancel policies willy nilly as they need a reason to do so.0

OP has stated that it was cancelled because the additional payment wasn't made within their timescale, but they haven't said why they were asked for this additional payment.
OP, how on Earth can they decide that a Royal Mail receipt is invalid?!
The whole story just reeks of incompetence and money grabbing at the worst level (IMO)
From what I have found online, Asda online exclusive and eCar are the same company, which is what FOS have said.
I'll no doubt get shot down in flames for suggesting, but have you spoken to your bank or credit card company about this? They might be able to help. I'm just trying to think of avenues you might be able to try.Feb 2024:

Thanks for advice. Clerical error to blame for the extra money. I put month day year instead of day month year. Silly thing to lose all this money over No? Anyway, I was abit offay about posting on here as so many newbies get shot down in flames by bullies. If we all knew tha answers, then this site would not be needed. I just want everyone to know what Asda car insurance is up to. Just because Go Compare, Compare the Market etc have good reviews does not mean anything. I suspect that they may be made up by invested parties. Is there anyway that Money Saving Admin can investigate what Asda and Ecar are upto? Because, according the the review centre, numerous people who have bothered to write bad reiviews all with the same story and outcome?0 -
Can anyone tell me how to get MSE to look into this provider and their shoddy tactics?0
-
You do have some responsibilities when taking out insurance - (apart from your error, which apparently was to your advantage), you are asked to check all the paperwork once the policy is issued and inform the insurer of any discrepancies, which it seems you didn't.
(MSE isn't the body that regulates insurers!)0 -
I've just been in a panic over Ecar - blooming awful customer service! A member called espresso gave me the number 01454 634810 to ring for them though and I managed to sort out my problem.
I hope to god I never have to make a claim from these people though...0 -
