Wartner

This is the stuff in a can at £10.99 which apparently mimics the liquid nitrogen that doctors use to get rid of verrucas.

Well i've used a whole can on my one & only verruca & its crap. I did all the preparatory work & still it didn't freeze it well enough to kill it.

Well, looks like plan B, a sustained & rather ham-fisted hacking away with a craft knife.

Tally-ho!

DON'T HACK!!!!!! I had one for 5 years that I couldn't get rid of. In the end I found a verruca gel from Scholl that worked. You do have to cut away the skin around it (I used nail clippers) and keep re applying it but it does work. If you hack it you could spread it and then you'll end up with a hole foot of the b***ers!

As a Podiatrist in private practice all I can say is that Verrucae can be an absloute pain to treat.
Our first advice is to leave well alone if they are not painful ( as treatments often make it painful!). They will go eventually, and often an old Verruca becoming painful is a sign that the immune system is getting involved and it will be going soon!
Some over the counter remedies just aren't strong enough, they just irritate the virus and can make it worse!
I would say get some professional input from a State registered Chiropodist or someone registered with the HPC.
If you are Diabetic or have any circulatory problems you should never use any over the counter remedies without advice.

Hi fitorbust, my son is 7 years old and we discovered a veruca on his foot last night. Its on the sole of his foot, on the heel part. He complained that when he runs it hurts. Do I take him to the doctor or just buy some veruca stuff from the Chemist?

My son was plagued by verrucas (on his feet) and warts all over one hand for over a year. Nothing shifted them. In the end we left them alone and they disappeared. May be an option??

Sorry I didn't get back to you Tiff - didn't check the thread again until tonight!
If he is 7, and it only hurts when he runs, I would leave well alone for a few months. They often get painful just before the immune system gets to them.
I also find that Tea tree oil is a good natural alternative - apply daily with cotton wool - this can take a couple of months, but if you get him involved it will make him feel in control. Believe it or not this can actually speed the treatment up.
    Good luck

Thanks for your help Lesley. I dont believe in rushing to the Doctor for every little thing (unlike my Mum who will make me feel guilty for not taking him) but I know its true about leaving verrucas as I had some that just disappeared, although it did take a very long time. I will get some tea tree oil and see how it goes.

  • Never thought about using essential oil tea tree or lemon? it does work i have a holistic thereapy qualifications which covers aromatherapy and essential oils. All you have to do is put one drop of either on the wart or verucca 2 times a day and cover it. Worth a try as its allot cheaper than some preperations than you can buy and these are 2 safe oils to use as well. Word of warning though dont use essential oils if pregnant or epeleptic or have ever had an embellism (spelling) and dont use lemon on the face as it can react with the sun and it will burn. Hope this helps and i hope its ok to post this too, apologies if its not :-)
  • i got talked into putting the white sap from a dandelion stalk on my daughter's verucca by my nan (didn't think it could do any harm and she insisted it worked) and to my surprise it turned black and after about a week it'd gone, probably a coincedence but worth a shot (and it's free!)

I bought some Wartner last week for my eldest. We had a can before (treated one of his warts once, and then forgot to bring it home from my Mum's in London), which we used up the other week on one of his warts - and it worked, the wart dropped off (though it seems there's another one underneath that's coming up now).

Poor lad has very unsightly hands - at the moment he's got about 12 warts on his hands, so if anyone has any foolproof ideas for getting rid of them I'd be pleased to hear it (he's had these warts for about 6 years now).
